Pleistocene paleoenvironmental evolution at continental middle latitude inferred from carbon and oxygen stable isotope analysis of ostracodes from the Guadix-Baza Basin (Granada, SE Spain)

open access: yes, 2006
A representative paleoenvironmental reconstruction of continental middle latitude from ca. 2my to the upper part of Middle Pleistocene (279±77ky) was obtained from the carbon and oxygen stable isotopes analyzed in ostracode shells (Cyprideis torosa ...

Unravelling a Rapid Radiation: Biogeography and Niche Evolution of Carex sect. Echinochlaenae Kük. (Cyperaceae)

open access: yesJournal of Biogeography, Volume 53, Issue 6, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Aim Carex section Echinochlaenae has a disjunct distribution across the Southern Hemisphere. It displays a clear center of diversity in New Zealand coupled with extreme morphological and ecological diversification, suggesting a potential evolutionary radiation.

Origin and diagenesis of calcretes in Upper Miocene limestones, southern Madrid basin, Spain [PDF]

open access: yes, 1991
Different calcrete pro files are associated with lacustrine limestones in Upper Miocene formations on the south of the Madrid Basin. The limestones overlie mudstones which interfinger thin limestones beds and are also interbeded with sandy-filled channels.

Geographic Range and Body Size Influence Abundance Patterns in Reef Fishes

open access: yesJournal of Biogeography, Volume 53, Issue 6, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Aim Understanding how body size and geographic range size influence species abundance is central to macroecology. Here, we characterized these relationships for reef fishes, the world's most diverse vertebrate group, across global and regional scales. Location Global tropical and subtropical reefs. Time Period Current.

Development of Holocene lacustrine microbialites on the Iberian Peninsula: Insights into environmental and depositional controls using X‐ray CT and petrography

open access: yesSedimentology, Volume 73, Issue 4, Page 1148-1184, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Microbial mats and microbialites are common in modern and ancient saline lacustrine environments and are highly responsive to biological and environmental factors. As such, they represent important sources of high‐resolution environmental data across a wide range of geological time. Nonetheless, interpretation of fossil mats is non‐trivial due
