The term Madura foot was first introduced by Colebrook, 1- in 1846, to describe a growth most frequently noted on the feet of natives in Madura, India. The condition, however, had been known for many years and probably had been confused with elephantiasis. In 1860, Vandyke Carter 1 first designated the condition as mycetoma.
