Augmented design for a fully automated alignment system at the Magdalena Ridge Observatory Interferometer [PDF]
Stable beam alignment of an optical interferometer is crucial for maintaining a usable signal-to-noise ratio during science measurements on faint astronomical targets. The Magdalena Ridge Observatory Interferometer will use an Automated Alignment System (AAS) that performs a start-of-night alignment procedure and subsequent alignment corrections in ...

Flood protection as a key-component of the environmental restoration of Canal del Dique, Colombia
Canal del Dique is a man-made distributary of Rio Magdalena. After its widening in 1980’s environmental degradation caused by abundant sediment load and changes to hydrology took a catastrophic form.

Historical baselines and empirical constraints on global and sectoral energy intensity pathways
Energy intensity is a key variable in energy-demand analysis, long-term scenario building, and strategic energy planning. Although global energy intensity has declined over recent decades, substantial heterogeneity persists across countries and economic ...

Development of an automated alignment system for the Magdalena Ridge Observatory Interferometer
The Magdalena Ridge Observatory Interferometer (MROI) is a long baseline optical interferometer under construction in New Mexico, USA. Once complete, it will study active galactic nuclei, young stellar objects and mass transfer in dynamical systems at visible and near infrared wavelengths with sub-milliarcsecond angular resolution.

Natural disasters around the world, and specifically floods, can generate great economic, en- vironmental, and human life losses in short periods of time. Early warning systems have been developed as a tool to mitigate the impact of these floods, nevertheless, most of this information is dispersed.
