Delayed reception of live blowfly (Calliphora vicina and Chrysomya rufifacies) larval samples: implications for minimum postmortem interval estimates

open access: yesForensic Sciences Research, 2018
Forensic entomology evidence collected by police and mortuary staff may be delayed in getting to the entomologist. Live samples may continue developing and alter minimum postmortem interval (PMImin) estimates.

IN VITRO EFFECT OF Chloroprocta SP. MAGGOTS SECRETION ON Staphylococcus epidermidis BIOFILM AND THE EXPRESSION LEVEL icaA OF GENE [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Biofilm formation and the expression of icaA gene can be induced by environment conditions that are potentially toxic for bacterial cells. The effect of green flies maggots secretion to biofilm was studied some years ago to investigate in vitro effect of

Field validation of blow fly age estimation methods for determining time of placement of human remains in Tennessee, USA

open access: yesJournal of Forensic Sciences, EarlyView.
Abstract Forensic entomology currently represents one of the best approaches for estimating the minimum postmortem interval (PMIMIN) in medicolegal death investigations given certain parameters and assumptions are met. However, validation of standard estimation methods used in this field are few and far between.

BACTERICIDAL AND ANTIGENIC QUALITIES OF THE WASHINGS OF BLOWFLY MAGGOTS

open access: yes, 1938
Washings of mixtures of maggots of Calliphora erythrocephala, C. latifrons, C. vomitoria nigribarda and Cynomya cadaverina, and of C. erythrocephala alone, showed bactericidal activity against Staph. aureus, Strep.

Stable flies preferentially oviposit on sites offering conspecific eggs with egg‐derived bacterial semiochemicals

open access: yesInsect Science, EarlyView.
Stable flies preferentially oviposit on sites offering conspecific eggs with egg‐derived airborne semiochemicals. Egg‐borne bacterial symbionts, and Serratia marcescens in particular, produce odorants which attract gravid female flies and elicit oviposition.
