A Platform for the Actuation of Magnetically Labeled Skeletal Muscle Cells Using Dynamic Magnetic Stimulation

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
A magnetic stimulation platform for the remote stimulation of cells is presented, consisting of a magnetic stimulator and magnetic microspheres. Skeletal muscle cells are labeled with magnetic microspheres, which act as local magnetic actuators on the cells upon application of the magnetic field.

Mecanismos químicos e mineralógicos de transformação da magnesioferrita de solo derivado de tufito, da região do Alto Paranaíba, MG Chemical and mineralogical mechanisms related to the transformation of magnesioferrite, in a soil forming on tuffite in Alto Paranaíba, MG

open access: yesQuímica Nova, 2009
Magnetic soils forming on tuffite of the region of Alto Paranaíba, Minas Gerais, Brazil, usually contain iron-rich spinels exceptionally rich in magnesium and titanium. In this work, samples of the magnetically separated portion from the sand fraction of

In situ mapping of iron oxidation in laminar metal fuel flames using X‐ray absorption spectroscopy

open access: yesJournal of Synchrotron Radiation, EarlyView.
For the first time an iron metal flame has been mapped by in situ X‐ray absorption spectroscopy. Strong gradients in oxidation state and phase composition across the metallic core and the flame front were found with FeO peaking at the visible flame front and Fe3O4 forming further beyond.Metal fuels such as iron are promising carbon‐free energy carriers

Optimization of maghemite-loaded PLGA nanospheres for biomedical applications [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Magnetic nanoparticles have been proposed as interesting tools for biomedical purposes. One of their promising utilization is the MRI in which magnetic substances like maghemite are used in a nanometric size and encapsulated within locally biodegradable ...

SiO2-PVA-Fe(acac)3 Hybrid Based Superparamagnetic Nanocomposites for Nanomedicine: Morpho-textural Evaluation and In Vitro Cytotoxicity Assay

open access: yesMolecules, 2020
A facile sol-gel route has been applied to synthesize hybrid silica-PVA-iron oxide nanocomposite materials. A step-by-step calcination (processing temperatures up to 400 °C) was applied in order to oxidize the organics together with the iron ...

Advanced aqueous alteration in primitive meteorites: Micro‐ to nanoscale studies of CR1 iron sulfides

open access: yesMeteoritics &Planetary Science, EarlyView.
Abstract This study documents micro‐ to nanoscale observations of primary nebular and secondary parent body iron sulfides in the CR1 GRO 95577. Despite the extensive alteration of the bulk sample, some primary sulfides managed to avoid alteration, having originally formed in the solar nebula during chondrule formation by either fission‐sulfidization or

Topotactic transformations of goethite and lepidocrocite into hematite and maghemite [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
International audienceGoethite (alpha-FeOOH), lepidocrocite (gamma-FeOOH), hematite (alpha-Fe2O3) and maghemite (gamma-Fe2O3) constitute the main natural occrrrences with magnetite (Fe3O4), for ferric oxides and oxyhydroxides.
