Dancing to multiple tunes: Establishing legitimacy with first‐time and repeat backers in crowdfunding campaigns

open access: yesStrategic Entrepreneurship Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Research Summary Using 14,108 Kickstarter crowdfunding campaigns, we examine three strategies to gather support from first‐time versus repeat backers: narrative distinctiveness aligning with backers' expectations of novelty, endorsement from Kickstarter staff, and campaign leadership's reciprocity of funding other campaigns.

Interplay Between Oxidation State, Intervalence Charge Transfer Transitions and Electronic Conductivity in a Series of Ru‐Based Metal–Organic Frameworks

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
Ru‐based square‐grid metal–organic frameworks undergo dramatic conductivity enhancements after chemical oxidation. The mixed‐valent states exhibit the highest conductivity values, which correlate with the appearance of intervalence charge transfer bands.

The Fierce Morphological Battle of Silver Nanoparticles: How Irregularities, Vacancies and Defects Tip the Crossing Sizes

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
The silver nanoparticle morphologies are identified thanks to ab initio models, including original families of defects and complex motifs, compared to measurements provided at targeted sizes (309, 561, 742, and 923 atoms). The crossings between structures to within a few atoms have been predicted due to very accurate computational conditions, which are

Characterization of the Pore Environments in Covalent Organic Frameworks by Dynamic Spin Probe Exchange

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) with alkyl or triethylene glycol pore linings are probed with water‐dissolved nitroxide radicals using CW EPR spectroscopy. Adsorption affinity, local polarity, and radical concentration inside the pores are quantified, revealing hydrogen bonding, dipolar, and π‐π interactions that govern guest binding, which ...

Linear Algebra of Magic Squares

open access: yes, 2008
A magic square M is an n-by-n array of numbers whose rows, columns, and the two diagonals sum to µ called the magic sum. If all the diagonals including broken diagonals sum to µ then the magic square is said to be pandiagonal.

Super‐Electron‐Donor Polymers: From Monomer Design to Redox Functionality

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
2,2'‐Bipyridinylidenes are known for their “super‐electron‐donor” properties and have therefore been used beyond the field of organic synthesis. Their two‐electron redox process at a low potential of 1.8 V vs. Li/Li+ makes them attractive negative p‐type electrode‐active materials.

Highlights of MAGIC results

open access: yes, 2008
MAGIC is the largest Cherenkov telescope currently operating and is in full operation since September 2004. Since then, it is providing a full wealth of exciting new physics results from its observations in the very high energy (VHE) region of galactic ...

Beyond Integer Charge Transfer: A New Design Rule Linking Dopant Strength and Counterion Separation to Efficient Carrier Transport in Conjugated Polymers

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
In this Research Article, the authors introduce a new design principle for doped conjugated polymers, showing that dopant energy depth relative to the host polymer (ΔE) can be leveraged to minimize Coulomb interactions and boost conductivity. This discovery offers a new and simple strategy to optimize the performance of organic electronics for everyday

How We Simulate Nanopores

open access: yesSmall Methods, EarlyView.
Nanopore technology has revolutionized single‐molecule sensing, yet it suffers from an inherent interpretive challenge. Molecular dynamics has emerged as a go‐to method for determining the relationship between the structure of translocating molecules and the nanopore current signals.

Overcoming Imaging Limitations: 4D‐STEM Pair Distribution Function for Resolving Structure of Supported Pt55 and Pt200 Clusters

open access: yesSmall Methods, EarlyView.
4D‐STEM based electron diffraction analysis has been developed to characterize the average structure of sensitive, dynamic ultrasmall supported Pt clusters at variable temperature by pair distribution analysis (PDF). For Pt55 and Pt200 the best fit is obtained for a multiply twinned decahedral configuration.
