Fossilized solidification fronts in the Bushveld Complex argue for liquid-dominated magmatic systems

open access: yesNature Communications, 2020
Magma storage zones are debated to either be crystal-dominated mush zones or large liquid-dominated magma chambers. Here, the authors discover fossilized solidification fronts of magnetitite in the Bushveld pluton, which indicate nucleation and crystal ...

Evidence From Microscopy and U–Pb Geochronology as a Clue to the Influence of the Cretaceous Magmatism in the Diagenesis of Pre‐Salt Carbonate Reservoirs in the Santos Basin (Brazil)

open access: yesGeological Journal, EarlyView.
Carbonates from Santos Basin revealed U–Pb ages correlated with basalt ages (A), suggesting that they were formed during magmatic events. These events placed hot CO2 in the reservoir, which, when mixed with carbonate‐rich cold water (B), led to thermal convection, enabling the formation of the U contained in the carbonates.

Exploring the Roots of a Massive Volcanic Eruption - Geochemical Comparison of Intrusive Rocks and Overlying Volcanic Rocks [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Understanding the relationship between magma chambers and erupted volcanic rocks will aid us in understanding the growth and evolution of magma bodies that are capable of producing violent, destructive volcanic eruptions.

Monocytes with trained immunity–like signatures are associated with acute anterior uveitis in ankylosing spondylitis

open access: yesInterdisciplinary Medicine, EarlyView.
In ankylosing spondylitis‐acute anterior uveitis (AS‐AAU), trained immunity monocytes (Mono‐TI) differentiate into macrophages in the eye, retaining trained immunity features. Mono‐TI cells secrete pro‐inflammatory cytokines and chemokines, including IL‐1β, TNF‐α, and CCL3.

Cyclic activity of the Fuego de Colima volcano (Mexico): insights from satellite thermal data and nonlinear models [PDF]

open access: yesSolid Earth, 2019
The Fuego de Colima volcano (Mexico) shows a complex eruptive behavior, with periods of rapid and slow lava dome growth punctuated by explosive activity.

The large-scale surface uplift in the Altiplano-Puna region of Bolivia: A parametric study of source characteristics and crustal rheology using finite element analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
This paper focuses on the driving mechanism behind a 70 km wide region of ground uplift centered on Uturuncu volcano, in the Altiplano-Puna region of southern Bolivia.

Setting the Record Straight: The Intellectual Legacy of H. Igor Ansoff (1918–2002)

open access: yesStrategic Change, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study presents a comprehensive annotated bibliography of H. Igor Ansoff's intellectual contributions, addressing significant gaps in existing citation databases such as Scopus and Web of Science, which capture only 9 to 15 percent of his work.

Insights Into Magma Chamber Processes From the Relationship Between Fabric and Grain Shape in Troctolitic Cumulates

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science, 2020
The strength of foliations defined by shape preferred orientation of plagioclase in troctolitic cumulates from the Layered Series of the Skaergaard intrusion, and the Rum Eastern Layered Intrusion, increases as the grains become more tabular, due either ...

Chromitite layers indicate the existence of large, long-lived, and entirely molten magma chambers

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
The classical paradigm of the ‘big magma tank’ chambers in which the melt differentiates, is replenished, and occasionally feeds the overlying volcanos has recently been challenged on various grounds.

Peixe Zircon as a Quality Control Reference Material in U‐Pb Geochronology by LA‐ICP‐MS

open access: yesGeostandards and Geoanalytical Research, EarlyView.
Key Points Peixe#0 zircon was characterised for U‐Pb geochronology using CA‐ID‐TIMS, SIMS and a long‐term LA‐ICP‐MS data set. The consistent results establish Peixe#0 as a reference material for U‐Pb quality control. Trace element heterogeneity requires careful, CL‐guided spot selection.
