The Aira caldera, located in southern Kyushu, Japan, originally formed 100 ka, and its current shape reflects the more recent 30 ka caldera-forming eruptions (hereafter, called the AT eruptions). This study aimed to delineate the detailed two-dimensional

Abstract Shergottites are the most abundant meteorites from Mars and a major source of information on magma reservoirs, transport, and eruption, particularly in the late Hesperian northern hemisphere. Conflicting interpretations have arisen on the crystallization conditions of pyroxene in olivine‐phyric shergottites.

Fault‐Controlled Permeability: A Key Parameter in Geothermal Electricity Production Assessment
ABSTRACT Geothermal energy is central to the global green energy transition, but its development has long focused on regions with positive thermal anomalies. Through a semi‐quantitative global‐scale review and spatial analysis of 361 geothermal sites, we show that 56.2% of global geothermal electricity production occurs in regions with thermal ...

The eruption cycle of a volcano is controlled by the subsurface migration and storage of magma. The specific characteristics of the magma migration and spatial distribution of material properties produce a specific deformation signature on the Earth’s ...

Formation and mechanics of magma reservoirs in Iceland [PDF]
Summary Provided magma flow in a partially molten layer follows Darcy's law of flow in porous media, it can be demonstrated that magma in the proposed magma layer beneath Iceland flows towards regions of reduced crustal thickness. In these regions, magma accumulates to form partially molten magma reservoirs, which are thus located in the magma layer.

Deep-seated geothermal reservoirs beneath calderas have high potential as sources of renewable energy. In this study, we used an analysis of melt inclusions to estimate the amount of water input to the upper crust and quantify the properties of a deep ...

We herein estimated the end of the ongoing deflation at Sinabung volcano, Indonesia, which began in 2014 under the assumption that the magma is incompressible and behaves as a Bingham fluid.

Rheological Controls on Magma Reservoir Failure in a Thermo‐Viscoelastic Crust
AbstractAs volcanoes undergo unrest, understanding the conditions and timescales required for magma reservoir failure, and the links to geodetic observations, are critical when evaluating the potential for magma migration to the surface and eruption. Inferring the dynamics of a pressurized magmatic system from episodes of surface deformation is heavily

Monitoring data are critical for understanding volcanic unrest and eruption, but they often lack the ability to constrain the pre‐eruptive magma processes.
