Thermostable neutral metalloprotease from Geobacillus sp. EA1 does not share thermolysin's preference for substrates with leucine at the P1′ position

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Knowing how proteases recognise preferred substrates facilitates matching proteases to applications. The S1′ pocket of protease EA1 directs cleavage to the N‐terminal side of hydrophobic residues, particularly leucine. The S1′ pocket of thermolysin differs from EA's at only one position (leucine in place of phenylalanine), which decreases cleavage ...

The Edge Crack, Texture Evolution, and Mechanical Properties of Mg-1Al-1Sn-Mn Alloy Sheets Prepared Using On-Line Heating Rolling

open access: yesMetals, 2018
A series of Mg-1Al-1Sn-Mn magnesium alloy sheets were rolled from 3 mm to 1 mm under temperatures of 150 °C, 200 °C, and 250 °C in four rolling passes using on-line heating rolling.

Response of Fungal Diversity, Community Composition, and Functions to Nutrients Management in Red Soil

open access: yesJournal of Fungi, 2021
Soil fungi play a critical role in plant performance and soil nutrient cycling. However, the understanding of soil fungal community composition and functions in response to different nutrients management practices in red soils remains largely unknown ...

Ergothioneine supplementation improves pup phenotype and survival in a murine model of spinal muscular atrophy

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is a genetic disease affecting motor neurons. Individuals with SMA experience mitochondrial dysfunction and oxidative stress. The aim of the study was to investigate the effect of an antioxidant and neuroprotective substance, ergothioneine (ERGO), on an SMNΔ7 mouse model of SMA.

Magnesium in disease [PDF]

open access: yesClinical Kidney Journal, 2012
Although the following text will focus on magnesium in disease, its role in healthy subjects during physical exercise when used as a supplement to enhance performance is also noteworthy. Low serum magnesium levels are associated with metabolic syndrome, Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and hypertension; consequently, some individuals benefit from ...

Maternal and neonatal serum magnesium concentrations in neural tube defects pregnancies in Gorgan (North of Iran) - A case control study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Objective: Neural tube defects (NTD) comprise a group of congenital malformations that include spinabifida, anencephaly and encephalocele. Previous studies have reported the embryotoxic and teratogenic effects of Magnesium deficiency in animal models ...

Single cis‐elements in brassinosteroid‐induced upregulated genes are insufficient to recruit both redox states of the BIL1/BZR1 DNA‐binding domain

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phytohormone brassinosteroid‐induced gene regulation by the transcription factor BIL1/BZR1 involves redox‐dependent DNA‐binding alternation and interaction with the transcription factor PIF4. The reduced BIL1/BZR1 dimer binds preferred cis‐elements, while oxidation alters its oligomerization state and disrupts DNA‐binding ability.

Heterogeneous Phosphotungstate Catalyst Mediated Efficient Alcoholysis of Furfuryl Alcohol into Long-Chain Levulinates

open access: yesBioResources, 2023
The synthesis of alternative fuels from biomass has emerged to be a vital strategy to maintain sustainable development. Long-chain levulinate esters (LEs) are a class of good biofuel candidates because they have similar structures to biodiesels and ...

Efficient synthesis of cyclic carbonates under atmospheric CO2 by DMAP-based ionic liquids: the difference of inert hydrogen atom and active hydrogen atom in cation

open access: yesGreen Chemical Engineering, 2023
The coupling reaction of carbon dioxide (CO2) and epoxides is one of the most efficient pathways to achieve the carbon balance. However, to accomplish it under the mild conditions, especially under the atmospheric pressure, is still a perplexing problem.
