Justification of modern magnesium preparations for the prevention of obstetric complications
The review examined the biological role of magnesium in providing numerous physiological processes occurring in the human body, as well as in the physiological course of pregnancy. Magnesium deficiency is defined.

Supernova Nebular Spectroscopy Suggests a Hybrid Envelope-Stripping Mechanism for Massive Stars [PDF]
When nuclear fuel in the core of a massive star with a zero-age main-sequence mass $M_{\rm ZAMS} \gtrsim 8M_\odot$ is exhausted, the central part of the iron or magnesium core collapses and forms a neutron star or a black hole. At the same time, the material above the collapsing core is rapidly ejected, leading to a stripped-envelope supernova (SESN ...

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is a disease with very poor prognosis due to therapeutic limitations. We investigated the antitumor effects of cystatin A (CSTA) in PDAC murine models. We are first to confirm that CSTA enhances T helper type 1‐mediated antitumor effects through promotion of dendritic cells and M1 macrophage activity. CSTA can be

VLT Observations of Turnoff stars in the Globular Cluster NGC 6397 [PDF]
VLT-UVES high resolution spectra of seven turnoff stars in the metal-poor globular cluster NGC 6397 have been obtained. Atmospheric parameters and abundances of several elements (Li, Na, Mg, Ca, Sc, Ti, Cr, Fe, Ni, Zn and Ba) were derived for program stars. The mean iron abundance is [Fe/H] = -2.02, with no star-to-star variation.

The complex mode of action of the topoisomerase II inhibitor etoposide in triggering apoptosis involves several mechanisms: overexpression of the mitochondrial protein VDAC1, leading to its oligomerization and formation of a large channel that mediates the release of pro‐apoptotic protein; and overexpression of the apoptosis regulators p53, Bax, and ...

Metal abundances in PG1159 stars from Chandra and FUSE spectroscopy [PDF]
We investigate FUSE spectra of three PG1159 stars and do not find any evidence for iron lines. From a comparison with NLTE models we conclude a deficiency of 1-1.5 dex. We speculate that iron was transformed into heavier elements. A soft X-ray Chandra spectrum of the unique H- and He-deficient star H1504+65 is analyzed.

Cancer stem cells are associated with aggressive disease, but a deep characterization of such markers is lacking in endometrial cancer. This study uses imaging mass cytometry to explore putative cancer stem cell markers in endometrial tumors and corresponding organoid models.

TOMM20 increases cancer aggressiveness by maintaining a reduced state with increased NADH and NADPH levels, oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS), and apoptosis resistance while reducing reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels. Conversely, CRISPR‐Cas9 knockdown of TOMM20 alters these cancer‐aggressive traits.

Crystal growth and characterization of MgB2: Relation between structure and superconducting properties [PDF]
We discuss the important aspects of synthesis and crystal growth of MgB2 under high pressure (P) and temperature (T) in Mg-B-N system, including the optimisation of P-T conditions for reproducible crystal growth, the role of liquid phases in this process, the temperature dependence of crystal size and the effect of growing instabilities on single ...

Presurgery 72‐h fasting in GB patients leads to adaptations of plasma lipids and polar metabolites. Fasting reduces lysophosphatidylcholines and increases free fatty acids, shifts triglycerides toward long‐chain TGs and increases branched‐chain amino acids, alpha aminobutyric acid, and uric acid.
