Foliar Magnesium supply increases the abundance of RuBisCO of Mg-deficient maize plants
Magnesium is a vital macronutrient for plants and is involved in a series of essential physiological processes, e.g., carbohydrate partitioning and photosynthesis. The latter is strictly Mg-dependent, as Mg is the central atom of chlorophyll, and is also required for the de novo synthesis of sugars; this pathway revolves around the activity of the ...

Abstract Magnesium (Mg) is involved in many biochemical and physiological processes affecting plant growth and development. Although Mg deficiency is a widespread problem in banana production, detailed study of physiological responses to Mg deficiency in banana crops is lacking.

Deficient minerals in overabundant populations could act as an attractant to cull sika deer (Cervus nippon). Because selective culling of female deer is reported to be effective in reducing sika deer populations, it is particularly important to clarify ...

Mineral nutrients are essential for plant growth and reproduction, yet only a few studies connect the nutritional status to plant innate immunity. The backbone of plant defense response is mainly controlled by two major hormones: salicylic acid (SA) and ...

Q fever outbreak in the terraced vineyards of Lavaux, Switzerland
Abstract Coxiella burnetii infection (Q fever) is a widespread zoonosis with low endemicity in Switzerland, therefore no mandatory public report was required. A cluster of initially ten human cases of acute Q fever infections characterized by prolonged fever, asthenia and mild hepatitis occurred in 2012 in the terraced vineyard of Lavaux ...

Multispectral and chlorophyll fluorescence imaging for detection of nutrient deficiency symptoms in common bean [PDF]
Crop production might suffer severe economic losses due to insufficient fertiliser availability. Specific signs of nutrient shortage influence plant morphology and physiology.

Background In this study, we aimed to test the hypothesis that magnesium (Mg) remobilization in citrus plants is regulated by Mg supply and contributes to differences in the growth of the parent and branch organs.

V605 Aquilae: a born again star, a nova or both? [PDF]
V605 Aquilae is today widely assumed to have been the result of a final helium shell flash occurring on a single post-asymptotic giant branch star. The fact that the outbursting star is in the middle of an old planetary nebula and that the ejecta associated with the outburst is hydrogen deficient supports this diagnosis.
