Hypersensitivity to magnesium sulfate

Two patients who were labor and delivery nurses were treated with intravenous magnesium sulfate because of preterm labor. Both patients had a rapid and sudden onset of an urticarial eruption. The eruption cleared when magnesium sulfate was discontinued.
