Optimization of magnetic powdered activated carbon for aqueous Hg(II) removal and magnetic recovery

open access: yesJournal of Hazardous Materials, 2012
Activated carbon is known to adsorb aqueous Hg(II). MPAC (magnetic powdered activated carbon) has the potential to remove aqueous Hg to less than 0.2 μg/L while being magnetically recoverable. Magnetic recapture allows simple sorbent separation from the waste stream while an isolated waste potentially allows for mercury recycling.

Magnetically Active Carbon Nanotubes at Work [PDF]

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, 2015
AbstractEndohedral and exohedral assembly of magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) and carbon nanotubes (CNTs) recently gave birth to a large body of new hybrid nanomaterials (MNPs–CNTs) featuring properties that are otherwise not in reach with only the graphitic or metallic cores themselves.

Deposition of Magnetite Nanoparticles in Activated Carbons and Preparation of Magnetic Activated Carbons [PDF]

open access: yesAIP Conference Proceedings, 2007
Magnetic activated carbons (MACs) for gold recovery from alkaline cyanide solutions have been developed by mixing a magnetic precursor with a carbon source, and treating the mixture under controlled conditions. As would be expected, these activated carbons have high specific surface areas due to their microporous structure.
