Magnetic Microspheres for MPI and magnetic actuation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
Magnetic particle imaging (MPI) systems do not only allow for the visualization of the distribution of magnetic nanoparticles, but the magnetic fields of an MPI scanner can be also used to apply a magnetic force or a torque. This enables the actuation of magnetic particles.

Magnetic fluid actuator

Sensors and Actuators A: Physical, 2000
The paper presents a non-conventional actuator with magnetic fluid, generating low forces and very small displacements, controlled by an electric current. A comparative study of the two versions is performed by means of the transfer characteristics. The device might be used in the fine control of some small mechanisms (e.g., the blades of the pneumatic

Magnetic micro-actuator

[1991] Proceedings. IEEE Micro Electro Mechanical Systems, 2002
The characteristics of three types of magnetic microactuators made by silicon-based microfabrication are described. The microfabrication, actuator configuration, and dynamic characteristics of a fabricated microactuator with a planar coil are examined. This microactuator is shown to operate in the nanometer range.
