Eddy current tomography for testing of ferromagnetic and non-magnetic materials

Measurement Science and Technology, 2014
This paper presents an eddy current tomography setup with high spatial resolution and high accuracy of measurements of the signal on the detection coil. In the proposed solution both amplitude and phase shift are measured, which makes it possible to calculate the spatial distribution of both permeability and resistivity of the tested element.

Analysis and Experimental Testing of a Permanent Magnet Eddy-Current Brake

2005 IEEE Vehicle Power and Propulsion Conference, 2005
Conventional friction braking suffers severe limitations. The concept of integrated contactless magnetic brake was invented to remedy to these problems. The integrated brake combines a conventional friction brake with an eddy-current brake. The present work includes an analysis of the physics of the eddy-current brake by the means of a two-dimensional ...

Crack depth estimation of non-magnetic material by convolutional neural network analysis of eddy current testing signal

, 2020
When a heat transfer tube of the steam generator of a pressurized water reactor fails, the primary cooling water leaks quickly into the secondary system.

Surface Profile Reconstruction of Complex Cracks Using the Signals of Rotating Eddy Current Testing Through the Eddy Current Imaging Method

IEEE transactions on industrial electronics (1982. Print), 2023
In industry, natural cracks usually exist in complex forms such as adjacent, colony, irregular, and crossing. Mere magnetic field is inadequate to accurately evaluate the complex cracks using eddy current testing.

Magnetic Nondestructive Test for Resistance Spot Welds Using Magnetic Flux Penetration and Eddy Current Methods

Journal of Nondestructive Evaluation, 2013
Resistance spot welding technologies are widely used in industry. A highly reliable monitoring method is needed to effectively weld and create a robust structure. We developed a combined technique using magnetic flux penetration and an eddy current test (ECT).

Analytical Torque Calculations and Experimental Testing of Permanent Magnet Axial Eddy Current Brake

IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 2013
This paper discusses the braking torque and normal force analysis of axial flux permanent magnet (AFPM)-type eddy current brakes (ECB) on the basis of an analytical field computation using a space harmonic method. On the basis of the magnetic vector potential and a 2D polar coordinate system, permanent magnets considering the eddy current effect are ...

Modeling of thin conductive and magnetic layers in eddy current testing by overlapping finite elements

International Journal of Applied Electromagnetics and Mechanics, 2012
In this paper a new field of application of the overlapping finite element method is proposed for eddy current testing. This method, which has already been used to deal with the lift-off, is extended to the treatment of thin conducting and/or magnetic layers.

Analytical magnetic torque calculations and experimental testing of radial flux permanent magnet-type eddy current brakes

Journal of Applied Physics, 2012
This paper reports on analytical magnetic torque calculations and experimental tests of a radial flux permanent magnet (RFPM)-type eddy current brake (ECB). Analytical solutions for permanent magnet-generated magnetic fields that consider the eddy current reaction are obtained by using a magnetic vector potential and a two dimensional (2D) polar ...

Detection of Surface and Back-Surface Defects on Metal Plate via Rectangular Wave Eddy Current Testing Using Magnetoresistive Sensor

IEEE transactions on magnetics, 2023
Eddy current testing (ECT) at different frequencies can identify surface and back-surface defects caused by the skin effect. Traditional ECT uses a pickup coil to measure the magnetic-field signal caused by eddy current.

Evaluation of 3D-Printed titanium alloy using eddy current testing with high-sensitivity magnetic sensor

NDT & E international, 2019
We developed ECT systems using high-sensitivity magnetic sensors with small size; and used the systems to evaluate a titanium alloy sample prepared by a 3D laser printer. Two systems were used.
