Gamma-Ray Bursts and Magnetars as Possible Sources of Ultra High Energy Cosmic Rays: Correlation of Cosmic Ray Event Positions with IRAS Galaxies

open access: yes, 2004
We use the two-dimensional Kolmogorov-Smirnov (KS) test to study the correlation between the 60 cosmic ray events above 4x10^19 eV from the AGASA experiment and the positions of infrared luminous galaxies from the IRAS PSCz catalog.

TBK1‐Associated Primary Lateral Sclerosis Followed by Right Temporal Variant Frontotemporal Dementia

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We report a 58‐year‐old woman with a novel splice‐site variant in the TANK‐binding kinase 1 (TBK1:c.993–2A>C p.Ala332TyrfsTer39) who sequentially developed primary lateral sclerosis (PLS) followed by right temporal variant frontotemporal dementia (rtvFTD). Neuroimaging demonstrated right anterior temporal atrophy before cognitive symptoms, and

Distribution of three geomagnetic components over Mizuho Plateau, Antarctica

open access: yesAntarctic Record, 1977
Distributional maps of declination, inclination and total force of geomagnetism reduced to the epoch of 1970.0 are presented on the basis of the data obtained by the oversnow traverses during the period from 1968 to 1974 over Mizuho Plateau, East ...

Diffusion‐Weighted Imaging for the Evaluation of the Sacroiliac Joint in Pediatric Patients

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Maturational signal in the sacroiliac joint (SIJ) of skeletally immature youth is often misinterpreted as inflammation. Diagnostic tools that improve specificity are greatly needed. Apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values from diffusion‐weighted imaging (DWI), when used with standard imaging, may enhance diagnostic accuracy.

A Study of the Morphology of Magnetic Storms Great Magnetic Storms [PDF]

open access: yes, 1958
Average characteristics are determined for 74 great magnetic storms with sudden commencements that occurred in 1902-1945. The storm field is resolved for different epochs of storm time into tv;o parts: (i) Dst, which is independent of local time, that

Understanding the Effect of Resistance Temperature Detector Temperature Controllers on Microstructural Alignment in Magnetic Freeze Casting

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The effect of temperature controllers that are commonly used in freeze‐casting is investigated in this work. Temperature controllers are observed to generate a voltage in the slurry. Microstructural alignment and ultimate compressive strength data show this voltage to interfere with the ability to align the microstructure using magnetic fields ...
