Toward Cosmological Simulations of the Magnetized Intracluster Medium with Resolved Coulomb Collision Scale

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We present the first results of one extremely high-resolution, nonradiative magnetohydrodynamical cosmological zoom-in simulation of a massive cluster with a virial mass of  M _vir = 2.0 × 10 ^15 solar masses. We adopt a mass resolution of 4 × 10 ^5 M _⊙

Vesicles in magnetic fields [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2016
Liposome vesicles tend to align with an applied magnetic field. This is due to the directional magnetic susceptibility difference of the lipids which form the membrane of these vesicles. In this work a model of liposome vesicles exposed to magnetic field is presented.

Impact of bulk density assignment of bone on MRI‐based abdominal region radiotherapy planning for MR‐linac workflow

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the impact of bone relative electron density (rED) assignment on radiotherapy planning for the abdominal region. Methods Twenty patients who received abdominal radiotherapy using MR‐Linac and underwent magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT) simulation were analyzed.

Sub-Alfvénic Turbulence: Magnetic-to-kinetic Energy Ratio, Modification of Weak Cascade, and Implications for Magnetic Field Strength Measurements

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We study the properties of sub-Alfvénic magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) turbulence, i.e., turbulence with Alfvén mach number M _A = V _L / V _A < 1, where V _L is the velocity at the injection scale and V _A is the Alfvén velocity.

Human papillomavirus (HPV) prediction for oropharyngeal cancer based on CT by using off‐the‐shelf features: A dual‐dataset study

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Background This study aims to develop a novel predictive model for determining human papillomavirus (HPV) presence in oropharyngeal cancer using computed tomography (CT). Current image‐based HPV prediction methods are hindered by high computational demands or suboptimal performance.

Fractality of Magnetic Helicity Distribution in the Solar Corona

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We find a universal power-law scaling of magnetic helicity distribution in the solar corona. Magnetic helicity is a dynamical invariant for ideal magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) and characterizes complex magnetic field structure by measuring the degree of ...

Brain magnetic resonance imaging with contrast dependent on blood oxygenation.

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America, 1990
Paramagnetic deoxyhemoglobin in venous blood is a naturally occurring contrast agent for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). By accentuating the effects of this agent through the use of gradient-echo techniques in high fields, we demonstrate in vivo images

Monte Carlo modeling of radiation dose from radiation therapy with superficial x‐rays

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Introduction Superficial x‐rays (50–100 kVp) are used for treating non‐melanoma skin cancer and intraoperative radiation therapy (IORT). At these energies, the photoelectric effect significantly increases absorbed dose to bone compared to soft tissue.

Effects of simultaneous multislice acceleration on the stability of radiomics features in parametric maps of IVIM and DKI in uterine cervical cancer

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of the simultaneous multislice acceleration (SMS) technique as well as two‐dimensional (2D) and three‐dimensional (3D) tumor segmentations on radiomics features (RFs) within the parametric maps of cervical cancer, which were computed by intravoxel incoherent motion (IVIM) and ...

Solar Force-free Magnetic Fields

open access: yesLiving Reviews in Solar Physics, 2012
The structure and dynamics of the solar corona is dominated by the magnetic field. In most areas in the corona magnetic forces are so dominant that all non-magnetic forces like plasma pressure gradient and gravity can be neglected in the lowest order ...
