The physical properties of magnetic inks [PDF]

open access: yes, 1988
The magnetic particle inspection (MPI) method is a widely used non destructive testing (NDT) technique for ferrous structures. Magnetic inks used in MPI are suspensions of fine ferro/ferrimagnetic particles which, when applied to a magnetized test ...

Spatially Regulated Lithium Plating via Li2O‐Rich Interphase Enables Durable Fast‐Charging Hybrid Lithium Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A Li2O‐rich solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) is engineered on graphite through a propylene carbonate‐based electrolyte to spatially regulate Li plating. The homogeneous interphase lowers Li nucleation barriers, promotes conformal Li deposition around graphite particles, and suppresses dendritic accumulation, enabling durable hybrid Li‐ion/Li‐metal ...

Magnetic properties of thin MnGe films investigated by magnetic force microscopy

open access: yes, 2004
Magnetic force microscopy has been used to study MnxGe1-x/Ge(100) films grown at 433 K as a function of Mn concentration. Imaging has been performed at room temperature and in zero magnetic field. Magnetic domains with a magnetization direction normal to

Dynamically Actuated Reconfigurable Topographical Surface Enables Active Control of Implant‐Associated Infections

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A dynamically actuated reconfigurable topographical surface (DARTS) integrates contact‐mediated bactericidal nanotopography with programmable mechanical actuation to actively disrupt bacterial biofilms. Dynamic surface reconfiguration enhances bacterial killing and suppresses implant‐associated infections in vivo, providing a new strategy for active ...

Observation of Zigzag-Shaped Magnetic Domain Boundaries in Granular Perpendicular Magnetic Recording Media Using Alternating Magnetic Force Microscopy

open access: yesMagnetochemistry
In granular media for perpendicular magnetic recording, zigzag-shaped magnetic domain boundaries form between magnetic grains isolated by a non-magnetic grain boundary phase.

Chitin‐Derived Carbon‐Metal Functional Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Functional carbon materials are synthesized from combination of biopolymer (chitin) and iron precursors. The resultant material exhibits superior surface area and adsorptive properties compared to carbon materials synthesized directly from pure chitin.

Direct Integration of Conductive, Emissive Perovskite Nanocrystals Into Efficient Light‐Emitting Diodes Without Post‐Synthetic Ligand Exchange

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We demonstrate the direct integration of CsPbBr3 perovskite nanocrystals (PNCs) into optoelectronic devices without post‐synthetic ligand exchange. This is achieved by synthesizing PNCs stabilized by strong‐binding‐energy oleylammonium–bromide pairs instead of oleate ligands. The resultant low ligand density and minimized surface defects enhance charge

Magnetic force microscopy and superconductors

open access: yesPhysica C: Superconductivity, 1991
Abstract If the tip of an atomic force microscope is made of a magnetic material, one obtain a magnetic force microscope that can be used to sense near-surface microfields with very high resolution (10 nm has been reported). Magnetic force microscopes (MFM) have been used to map out magnetization patters written on magnetic recording media and to st ...

Thermoresponsive Soft and Self‐Anchoring Cuff Electrode for Chronic Peripheral Interfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A novel thermoresponsive, soft and self‐anchoring (TSSA) cuff electrode utilizing shape memory polymers achieves autonomous, sutureless peripheral nerve fixation. Driven by thermally induced pre‐strain and tissue adhesion, the device self‐closes and softens at body temperature, successfully minimizing mechanical mismatch. This adaptive platform ensures
