High-performance magnetic gears

Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials, 2004
Abstract Magnetic gearing may offer significant advantages such as reduced maintenance and improved reliability, inherent overload protection, and physical isolation between input and output shafts. Despite these advantages, it has received relatively little attention, to date, probably due to the poor torque transmission capability of proposed ...

Magnetic planetary gear drive

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part C: Journal of Mechanical Engineering Science, 2009
In this study, a magnetic planetary gear drive is proposed and its operating principle is introduced. The equations of the geometrics and kinematics for the drive are given. The equations of the magnetic induction intensity for the magnetic gear teeth are deduced.

A linear magnetic gear

2012 XXth International Conference on Electrical Machines, 2012
Linear magnetic gears, when coupled with a linear permanent magnet machine, are a high-efficiency, high-reliability and force-dense alternative to traditional linear actuation solutions. It is shown that the force density of a linear magnetic gear is affected by the required output stroke and gear ratio.

A multielement magnetic gear

IEE Proceedings B Electric Power Applications, 1980
The paper presents an appraisal of the problems inherent in the production of a magnetic gear. A new form of gear is presented, together with the theoretical basis of its operation, and is compared with a simple wheel gear. Experimental results are included for a complete gear and for the constructional elements.

Coaxial magnetic gear design

2016 IEEE Conference on Electromagnetic Field Computation (CEFC), 2016
In this paper a design tool for coaxial magnetic gears will be presented. In particular the demagnetization issues and the mechanical constraints will be highlighted. The design procedure is especially tailored for multi-objective optimization.

A Magnetic-Geared Machine Derived from the Dual-Flux-Modulated Magnetic Gear

2019 International Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Manufacturing (AIAM), 2019
A dual-flux-modulated CMG (DFM-CMG) evolved from the conventional CMG is presented. The torque capability of the DFM-CMG is higher than that of the conventional CMG. A DFM magnetic-geared machine (DFM-MGM) derived from the DFM-CMG is also proposed, which is obtained by replacing the high-speed rotor (HSR) of the DFM-CMG with a stator.

Coaxial Magnetic Gear Design and Optimization

IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, 2017
The main aim of this paper is the imposition of constraints for the multiobjective optimizations of magnetic gears. In order to reduce the computational effort, a semianalytic design procedure is adopted, providing a fast simulation tool that can be embedded within an optimization loop.

Magnet Gear with Two-Axial Magnetic Paths

Journal of the Korean Society for Precision Engineering, 2014
A magnet gear composed of two layers of permanent magnets repeated circumferentially can transmit the power without mechanical contact. In the topology called by the magnet shutter gear known as the most competitive concept among the existing concepts, the number of pole-pairs on the high speed rotor corresponds to that of low speed rotor through ...

A new magnetic gear using permanent magnet

IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 1987
This paper describes the structure and the performance characteristics of a magnetic gear using SmCo 5 for the permanent magnet. The magnetic gear has a gear ratio of 1/3 and the maximum transmitted torque is 5.5 Nm at the driven magnetic gear. When the rotating speed of the driving magnetic pinion is 2000 rpm, the driven magnetic gear rotates at 2000 ...
