Magnetic gear: A review

2014 11th IEEE/IAS International Conference on Industry Applications, 2014
This paper aims to present the operation principle of the magnetic gear by the finite-element method (FEM). The effect of the modulation phenomena is explained using the Coaxial Magnetic Gear as reference. The approach consists basically in obtaining the flux densities waves for the machine air gaps and then analyzes its harmonic spectra. Additionally,

The Cycloid Permanent Magnetic Gear

IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 2006
This paper presents a new permanent-magnet gear based on the cycloid gearing principle. which normally is characterized by an extreme torque density and a very high gearing ratio. An initial design of the proposed magnetic gear was designed, analyzed, and optimized with an analytical model regarding torque density.

Permanent magnets for a magnetic gear

2016 19th International Symposium on Electrical Apparatus and Technologies (SIELA), 2016
A research of the permanent magnet influence on the steady-state and the dynamic characteristics of a magnetic gear is carried out. For this purpose, a two dimensional finite element model has been developed and applied using Ansys Maxwell package. Permanent magnets such as Alnico, ferrite, SmCo and NdFeB are utilized in order to evaluate their effect ...

A Novel Magnetic Harmonic Gear

IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 2007
Magnetic gears offer several advantages compared to mechanical gears in terms of reduced maintenance, improved reliability, and inherent overload protection while having a high efficiency. This paper describes the principle of operation of a novel form of magnetic gear, which is particularly suited to applications for which a high gear ratio is ...

A Magnetic-Geared Machine Derived from the Dual-Flux-Modulated Magnetic Gear

2019 International Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Manufacturing (AIAM), 2019
A dual-flux-modulated CMG (DFM-CMG) evolved from the conventional CMG is presented. The torque capability of the DFM-CMG is higher than that of the conventional CMG. A DFM magnetic-geared machine (DFM-MGM) derived from the DFM-CMG is also proposed, which is obtained by replacing the high-speed rotor (HSR) of the DFM-CMG with a stator.

VII.High-Efficiency Magnetic Gear and Developing Magnetic-Geared Motor

2016 International Conference of Asian Union of Magnetics Societies (ICAUMS), 2016
Magnetic gears can transmit torque without any mechanical contacts. Hence, they have low vibration, no wear and fatigue, which offer maintenance-free operation. Various kinds of magnetic gears have been introduced in previous papers and patents. Among them, a flux-modulated type magnetic gear, which consists of an inner and outer rotor with surface ...

Cogging Torque Definitions for Magnetic Gears and Magnetically Geared Electrical Machines

IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 2018
Although cogging torque in magnetic gears (MGs) has been studied, the additional degree of freedom inherent to MGs makes it unclear exactly what is defined as the cogging torque of a MG. Although MGs generally have relatively smooth torque transfer characteristics, this paper reveals that when the gear is used in an up-speed configuration, cogging ...

Coaxial Magnetic Gear Design and Optimization

IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, 2017
The main aim of this paper is the imposition of constraints for the multiobjective optimizations of magnetic gears. In order to reduce the computational effort, a semianalytic design procedure is adopted, providing a fast simulation tool that can be embedded within an optimization loop.

Gearing ratios of a magnetic gear for marine applications

2009 IEEE Electric Ship Technologies Symposium, 2009
Marine propulsion systems have become increasingly electromechanical in recent years. Proposed systems show increasing torque density in an effort to reduce volume and weight. A magnetic gear is proposed to reduce the size of the propulsion motor and achieve similar torque amplification provided by a mechanical gearbox, without the maintenance and ...
