Use of a superconductive magnetic gradiometer near magnetic objects
Journal of Applied Physics, 1983We present a technique for orienting a superconductive magnetic gradiometer, formed by two coplanar pickup loops, to suppress gradient fluctuations originating from nearby magnetic objects. We developed the technique to quiet fluctuations coming from the steel structure of an oceanographic research tower that impressed gradients of about 200 nT/m at ...

Balancing A Fiber Optic Magnetic Gradiometer
SPIE Proceedings, 1990A balancing procedure for a fiber optic magnetic gradiometer is presented. The gradiometer is a Mach-Zehnder interferometer with both arms configured as measurement arms. The procedure describes the nulling of DC environmental fields at each of the transducers without the difficulties associated with hysteresis when a previously nulled transducer is re-

An evaluation of the marine magnetic gradiometer
GEOPHYSICS, 1984This study examines the ability of a marine gradiometer to produce diurnal‐free total magnetic intensity data. Using Gulf’s research vessel HOLLIS HEDBERG, an experimental program was carried out in the Santa Barbara channel offshore California. A shore‐based station was operated continuously during the survey period to monitor the temporal magnetic ...

A New Single-Sensor Magnetic Field Gradiometer
Sensor Letters, 2009In this work a magnetic field gradiometer device has been developed. This device is not composed by two sensors separated a certain distance but by a single–sensor device which measures the real gradient value just at the point where it is wanted to be measured. The experimental set-up consists of a sensor head (a membrane with a fixed permanent magnet

Magnetic full tensor SQUID gradiometer system for geophysical applications
SEG Technical Program Expanded Abstracts 2004, 2004In 1997, the Institute for Physical High-Technology (IPHT) in Jena, Germany, started a program with the aim of developing an airborne full-tensor magnetic gradiometer superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) using liquid-helium-based thin-film technology.

An all-optical, high-sensitivity magnetic gradiometer
Applied Physics B: Lasers and Optics, 2002Optical magnetometers have reached sensitivities that make them interesting candidates for the measurement of weak magnetic fields also outside physics laboratories. In order to overcome problems with stray magnetic fields a common solution with existing magnetometers is to operate a pair of them in a gradiometer configuration: one sensor measures the ...

Fiber-optic magnetic gradiometer utilizing the magnetic translational force
Journal of Lightwave Technology, 1990A fiberoptic AC/DC magnetic gradiometer utilizing magnetic translational force is proposed, and its working principle is verified. The minimum gradient of an AC magnetic field of 4*10/sup -2/ is detected with 100 mm of Sm-Co-coated sensor fiber built into an interferometer.

Wavenumber domain interpretation of magnetic gradiometer data
Geoexploration, 1989Abstract An interpretation scheme is discussed whereby the amplitude and phase spectra of airborne or ground gradiometer profile over a dipping tabular dike and contact are used to determine the width, depth to top and the horizontal position of the top center of the dike, and in the case of the contact, its depth, and location.
