Coulomb Promotion of Spin-Dependent Tunnelling

open access: yes, 2005
We study transport of spin-polarized electrons through a magnetic single-electron transistor (SET) in the presence of an external magnetic field. Assuming the SET to have a nanometer size central island with a single electron level we find that the ...

Characteristics and Outcomes of Male Participants in a Multicenter Longitudinal Australian Study Cohort

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective The aim of this study was to determine the differences in demographic, serologic, and clinical characteristics between male and female patients with systemic sclerosis (SSc) in an Australian cohort. Methods This was a retrospective observational study using data from the Australian Scleroderma Cohort Study.

Epitaxially constrained magnetic ordering in semimetallic SrIrO3 thin films [PDF]

open access: yesAPL Materials
Strain engineering provides a powerful route to inducing striking emergent phenomena in quantum materials, particularly those governed by a delicate interplay between electron correlations and spin–orbit coupling, such as orthorhombic SrIrO3.

On the dynamics of vortex modes within magnetic islands

open access: yes, 2012
Recent work investigating the interaction of magnetic islands with micro-turbulence has uncovered the striking observation of large scale vortex modes forming within the island structure [W.A. Hornsby {\it et al.}, Phys.

Particle acceleration and reconnection in the solar wind [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
An emerging paradigm for the dissipation of magnetic turbulence in the supersonic solar wind is via localized quasi-2D small-scale magnetic island reconnection processes.

NanoMOF‐Based Multilevel Anti‐Counterfeiting by a Combination of Visible and Invisible Photoluminescence and Conductivity

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents novel anti‐counterfeiting tags with multilevel security features that utilize additional disguise features. They combine luminescent nanosized Ln‐MOFs with conductive polymers to multifunctional mixed‐matrix membranes and powder composites. The materials exhibit visible/NIR emission and matrix‐based conductivity even as black bodies.

Redox imbalance drives magnetic property and function changes in mice

open access: yesRedox Biology
The magnetic properties of substances directly determine their response to an externally applied magnetic field, which are closely associated with magnetoreception, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and magnetic bioeffects.

Use of differential plasma rotation to prevent disruptive tearing mode onset from 3-wave coupling

open access: yesNuclear Fusion
Plasma differential rotation is found to be capable of preventing disruptive neoclassical tearing modes (NTMs) seeded by nonlinear three-wave coupling. As tearing modes degrade confinement and can lead to disruptions, stabilization strategies are crucial

Nambu monopoles interacting with lattice defects in two-dimensional artificial square spin ice

open access: yes, 2013
The interactions between an excitation (similar to a pair of Nambu monopoles) and a lattice defect are studied in an artificial two-dimensional square spin ice.
