Development of a Magnetic Levitation System for Additive Manufacturing: Simulation Analyses [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 2020
Magnetic levitation has been always a very promising field. Due to its versatility, it has garnered interest in field energy harvesting, high speed transportation, and high precision micro-manipulation amongst other fields. However, its application within the sphere of additive manufacturing (AM) has been negligible.

Role of Liquid Composition in the Transient Liquid Assisted Growth of Superconducting YBa2Cu3O7‐δ Films

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The Y supersaturation in the [Ba‐Cu(I/II)‐O] transient liquid composition is the driving force toward YBCO nucleation and growth in TLAG. Tuning the initial (Ba:Cu) molar ratio in the ink composition determines the YBCO epitaxial nucleation through supersaturation control.

Miniature Soft Robot With Magnetically Reprogrammable Surgical Functions

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Miniature soft robots have great prospects to revolutionize minimally invasive treatments. Here we present a miniature soft robot, which can be reprogrammed to perform five surgical functionalities with six‐degrees‐of‐freedom motions. This soft robot can prospectively make minimally invasive surgery considerably safer and painless, and enable ...

Nonlinear control of a planar magnetic levitation system [PDF]

open access: yes42nd IEEE International Conference on Decision and Control (IEEE Cat. No.03CH37475), 2004
This paper initiates a research aimed at developing tools that may have practical significance in contactless position control applications such as, e.g., photolithography. We describe a simple three-magnets planar positioning device, its mathematical model, and design a nonlinear controller that stabilizes it about an equilibrium.

A state observer for sensorless control of magnetic levitation systems [PDF]

open access: yesAutomatica, 2018
In this paper we address the problem of state observation for sensorless control of nonlinear magnetic levitation systems, that is, the regulation of the position of a levitated object measuring only the voltage and current of the electrical supply. Instrumental for the development of the theory is the use of parameter estimation-based observers, which
