Development of a Rigidity Tunable Flexible Joint Using Magneto-Rheological Compounds—Toward a Multijoint Manipulator for Laparoscopic Surgery

open access: yesFrontiers in Robotics and AI, 2020
Laparoscopic surgery is a representative operative method of minimally invasive surgery. However, most laparoscopic hand instruments consist of rigid and straight structures, which have serious limitations such as interference by the instruments and ...

The trimer-based spin liquid candidate Ba4NbIr3O12

open access: yes, 2018
Ba4NbIr3O12, a previously unreported material with a triangular planar geometry of Ir3O12 trimers, is described. Magnetic susceptibility measurements show no magnetic ordering down to 1.8 K despite the Curie-Weiss temperature of -13 K. The material has a

Longitudinal circulating tumor DNA profiling in patients with advanced endometrial cancer using an off‐the‐shelf targeted NGS panel

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Intratumour heterogeneity complicates precision management of advanced endometrial cancer. Circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) offers a minimally invasive strategy to capture tumor evolution and therapeutic resistance. Here, we compare tumor‐agnostic NGS with tumor‐informed ddPCR, outlining their relative sensitivity, concordance, and clinical implications ...

Elucidating the Role of Intralayer Cation Ordering and Disordering in Li0.6[Li0.2Mn0.8]O2 Cathode Materials

open access: yesCarbon Energy
Full‐manganese (Mn) Li‐rich materials have gained attention owing to the limited availability of cobalt‐ or nickel‐based cathodes commonly used in batteries, which greatly restricts their potential for large‐scale application.

Stability of magnetic vortex in soft magnetic nano-sized circular cylinder

open access: yes, 2001
Stability of magnetic vortex with respect to displacement of its center in a nano-scale circular cylinder made of soft ferromagnetic material is studied theoretically.

Circulating tumor cell viability during and after radiotherapy mirrors treatment response in cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Radiotherapy (RT) response depends on the DNA repair capacity of tumor and host cells. We show that circulating tumor cell (CTC) counts and apoptosis rates before and after RT predict treatment response and outcome, which can be accessed via easily accessible liquid biopsy approaches. Created in BioRender. Wikman, H.

Parity-time symmetry from stacking purely dielectric and magnetic slabs

open access: yes, 2015
We show that Parity-time symmetry in matching electric permittivity to magnetic permeability can be established by considering an effective Parity operator involving both mirror symmetry and coupling between electric and magnetic fields.

Single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assays for high‐throughput DNA–protein interaction studies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We describe an optimised single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assay that visualises DNA–protein interactions in real time. Linear DNA fragments are tethered to a surface and stretched by buffer flow for fluorescence imaging. Using λ and φX174 DNA, this protocol enhances reproducibility and accessibility, providing a versatile approach for studying diverse ...

Field induced gap infrared detector [PDF]

open access: yes, 1990
A tunable infrared detector which employs a vanishing band gap semimetal material provided with an induced band gap by a magnetic field to allow intrinsic semiconductor type infrared detection capabilities is disclosed.

Improved Magnetic Information Storage using Return-Point Memory

open access: yes, 1996
The traditional magnetic storage mechanisms (both analog and digital) apply an external field signal H(t) to a hysteretic magnetic material, and read the remanent magnetization M(t), which is (roughly) proportional to H(t). We propose a new analog method
