The Lifshitz-Matsubara sum formula for the Casimir pressure between magnetic metallic mirrors

open access: yes, 2015
We examine the conditions of validity for the Lifshitz-Matsubara sum formula for the Casimir pressure between magnetic metallic plane mirrors. As in the previously studied case of non-magnetic materials (Guerout et al, Phys. Rev. E 90 042125), we recover

Interplanetarymedium monitoring with LISA: Lessons from LISA Pathfinder

open access: yesJournal of Space Weather and Space Climate, 2022
The Laser Interferometer Space Antenna (LISA) of the European Space Agency (ESA) will be the first low-frequency gravitational-wave observatory orbiting the Sun at 1 AU.

Quantized Casimir Force

open access: yes, 2012
We investigate the Casimir effect between two-dimensional electron systems driven to the quantum Hall regime by a strong perpendicular magnetic field. In the large separation (d) limit where retardation effects are essential we find i) that the Casimir ...

An atom mirror etched from a hard drive [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
We describe the fabrication of an atom mirror by etching of a common hard drive, and we report the observation of specular retroreflection of 11 uk cesium atoms using this mirror.

Magnetic Mirroring and Focusing of Cosmic Rays [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2018
Abstract We study the combined impact of magnetic mirroring and focusing on the ionization by cosmic rays (CRs) in dense molecular clouds and circumstellar disks. We show that for effective column densities of up to ∼1025 cm−2 (where ionization is the main mechanism of energy loss by CRs) the two effects practically cancel each other out,

Establishment of a humanized patient‐derived xenograft mouse model of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer for preclinical evaluation of combination immunotherapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We have established a humanized orthotopic patient‐derived xenograft (Hu‐oPDX) mouse model of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC) that recapitulates human tumor–immune interactions. Using combined anti‐PD‐L1/anti‐CD73 immunotherapy, we demonstrate the model's improved biological relevance and enhanced translational value for preclinical ...

Coulomb and Higgs branches from canonical singularities. Part I. Hypersurfaces with smooth Calabi-Yau resolutions

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2022
Compactification of M-theory and of IIB string theory on threefold canonical singularities gives rise to superconformal field theories (SCFTs) in 5d and 4d, respectively.

Generation of pulse trains by current-controlled magnetic mirrors

open access: yes, 2009
The evolution of a spin-wave packet trapped between two direct current-carrying wires placed on the surface of a ferrite film is observed by Brillouin light scattering. The wires act as semi-transparent mirrors confining the packet. Because the spin-wave

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Imaging the Plumbing System of the Asymmetric Vavilov Spreading Ridge (Tyrrhenian Sea Back‐Arc Basin) From Combined Bathymetry and Magnetic Data

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2023
Back‐arc basins (BABs) are associated with plate margins where crustal shortening, seafloor spreading, and volcanism coexist. The Vavilov basin (Tyrrhenian Sea) is a Pliocene BAB associated with the Apennine‐Tyrrhenian Sea subduction system and ...
