Orbital Floquet Engineering of Exchange Interactions in Magnetic Materials [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
We present a new scheme to control the spin exchange interactions between two magnetic ions by manipulating the orbital degrees of freedom using a periodic drive. We discuss two different protocols for orbital Floquet engineering.

Screening for lung cancer: A systematic review of overdiagnosis and its implications

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Low‐dose computed tomography (CT) screening for lung cancer may increase overdiagnosis compared to no screening, though the risk is likely low versus chest X‐ray. Our review of 8 trials (84 660 participants) shows added costs. Further research with strict adherence to modern nodule management strategies may help determine the extent to which ...

Magnetized strange quark matter and magnetized strange quark stars

open access: yes, 2007
Strange quark matter could be found in the core of neutron stars or forming strange quark stars. As is well known, these astrophysical objects are endowed with strong magnetic fields which affect the microscopic properties of matter and modify the ...

Liquid biopsy epigenetics: establishing a molecular profile based on cell‐free DNA

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cell‐free DNA (cfDNA) fragments in plasma from cancer patients carry epigenetic signatures reflecting their cells of origin. These epigenetic features include DNA methylation, nucleosome modifications, and variations in fragmentation. This review describes the biological properties of each feature and explores optimal strategies for harnessing cfDNA ...

The Structural and Magnetic Properties of La1-xcaxmno3 with X = 0.27 and 0.47 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We have studied the structural and magnetic properties for La1-xCaxMnO3 with x = 0.27 and 0.47 using neutron powder diffraction and magnetization measurements. At room and low temperature, all samples have the orthorhombic structure with space group Pnma.

Magnetic properties of doped GdI2 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Motivated by the recent experimental studies on layered ferromagnetic metallic system GdI2 and its doped variant GdI2Hx we develop a model to understand their ground state magnetic phase diagram. Based on first principle electronic structure calculations

Dual targeting of RET and SRC synergizes in RET fusion‐positive cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Despite the strong activity of selective RET tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs), resistance of RET fusion‐positive (RET+) lung cancer and thyroid cancer frequently occurs and is mainly driven by RET‐independent bypass mechanisms. Son et al. show that SRC TKIs significantly inhibit PAK and AKT survival signaling and enhance the efficacy of RET TKIs in ...

Cold ideal equation of state for strongly magnetized neutron-star matter: effects on muon production and pion condensationn

open access: yes, 2000
Neutron stars with very strong surface magnetic fields have been suggested as the site for the origin of observed soft gamma repeaters (SGRs). In this paper we investigate the influence of such strong magnetic fields on the properties and internal ...

Phenotypic and genotypic characterization of single circulating tumor cells in the follow‐up of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Single circulating tumor cells (sCTCs) from high‐grade serous ovarian cancer patients were enriched, imaged, and genomically profiled using WGA and NGS at different time points during treatment. sCTCs revealed enrichment of alterations in Chromosomes 2, 7, and 12 as well as persistent or emerging oncogenic CNAs, supporting sCTC identity.

Tailoring Fe/Ag Superparamagnetic Composites by Multilayer Deposition

open access: yes, 2005
The magnetic properties of Fe/Ag granular multilayers were examined by SQUID magnetization and Mossbauer spectroscopy measurements. Very thin (0.2 nm) discontinuous Fe layers show superparamagnetic properties that can be tailored by the thickness of both
