Scattering of Magnetic Edge States [PDF]

open access: yesAnnales Henri Poincaré, 2006
We consider a charged particle following the boundary of a two-dimensional domain because a homogeneous magnetic field is applied. We develop the basic scattering theory for the corresponding quantum mechanical edge states. The scattering phase attains a limit for large magnetic fields which we interpret in terms of classical trajectories.

Impact of the neutron-depolarization effect on polarized neutron scattering in ferromagnets

open access: yesIUCrJ, 2021
It has been known for decades that a ferromagnetic sample can depolarize a transmitted neutron beam. This effect was used and developed into the neutron-depolarization technique to investigate the magnetic structure of ferromagnetic materials.

Magnetic neutrino scattering by crystals [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review D, 1990
The magnetic dipole scattering of neutrinos by the electrostatic potentials of single atoms as well as crystals is investigated. It is shown that scattering by a rigid cubic lattice can amplify the neutrino-atom cross section by a factor of {ital N}{sup 1/3}, {ital N} being the number of scatterers.

Towards understanding the magnetic properties of the breathing pyrochlore compound Ba3Yb2Zn5O11through single-crystal studies

open access: yesnpj Quantum Materials, 2022
Ba3Yb2Zn5O11 is exceptional among breathing pyrochlore compounds for being in the nearly-decoupled limit where inter-tetrahedron interactions are weak, hosting isolated clusters or molecular magnet-like tetrahedra of magnetic ytterbium (Yb3+) ions.

Haldane topological spin-1 chains in a planar metal-organic framework

open access: yesNature Communications, 2023
Haldane topological materials contain unique antiferromagnetic chains with symmetry-protected energy gaps. Such materials have potential applications in spintronics and future quantum computers.

Feasibility of Probing the Filler Restructuring in Magnetoactive Elastomers by Ultra-Small-Angle Neutron Scattering

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2021
Ultra-small-angle neutron scattering (USANS) experiments are reported on isotropic magnetoactive elastomer (MAE) samples with different concentrations of micrometer-sized iron particles in the presence of an in-plane magnetic field up to 350 mT.

Neutron adiabaticity and its impact on data analysis, illustrated for polarized GISANS [PDF]

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2023
The significance of neutron spin adiabaticity in the data analysis of polarized Grazing Incidence Small Angle Neutron Scattering (GISANS) is discussed, with the aim of minimizing the number of simulation parameters of complex magnetic models within the ...

Magnetic Guinier law

open access: yesIUCrJ, 2020
Small-angle scattering of X-rays and neutrons is a routine method for the determination of nanoparticle sizes. The so-called Guinier law represents the low-q approximation for the small-angle scattering curve from an assembly of particles.

Nonlinear multi-magnon scattering in artificial spin ice

open access: yesNature Communications, 2023
Magnons, the quantum-mechanical fundamental excitations of magnetic solids, are bosons whose number does not need to be conserved in scattering processes.
