Developing a Suitable Anion Exchange Layer Structure for Pure–Water Fed Bipolar Membrane CO2 Electrolysis

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.
A porous anion exchange layer (AEL) is implemented in a forward‐biased bipolar membrane CO2 electrolyzer to suppress carbonate crossover, support CO2 regeneration and maintain cathode alkalinity. Two fabrication strategies are compared—deposition on a silver gas diffusion electrode (GDE) or on the CEM—showing that a porous AEL‐coated GDE provides the ...

Advances in magnetic tweezers for single molecule and cell biophysics

open access: yes, 2017
Magnetic tweezers (MTW) enable highly accurate forces to be transduced to molecules to study mechanotransduction at the molecular or cellular level. We review recent MTW studies in single molecule and cell biophysics that demonstrate the flexibility of ...

Sprayable Polyolefin Sorbents Enabled by Bio‐Solvents for Large‐Scale Oil and Chemical Spill Recovery

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.
A sprayable POE‐based sorbent formulated with a green solvent blend of α‐pinene, D‐limonene, and p‐cymene enables rapid in situ film formation via solvent evaporation, allowing efficient pollutant capture. The system exhibits high oil uptake (37.3 g g−1) and effectively removes up to 60 mL of VLSFO under simulated marine spill conditions.

Chemically Modular, Nonfluorinated Polymer Adsorbents for Capturing Per‐ and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS)

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.
Nonfluorinated polymer networks for PFAS adsorption are synthesized using active ester click chemistry. Incorporating Lewis base ligands along with hydrophilic and hydrophobic co‐monomers leads to high PFOA binding efficiency. Ligand basicity and pH are found to play an important role in PFOA sorption.

Nano‐Silver‐Selenium Liquid Dressing Facilitates Treatment of Monkeypox and Prevention of Viral Transmission in a Surrogate Mouse Model

open access: yesExploration, EarlyView.
There is no effective method to treat this virus and prevent its transmission. To address this, we have developed a nano‐silver‐selenium liquid dressing (AgSe@LD) by combining silver and selenium nanoparticles with commercial liquid dressings. This unique AgSe@LD formulation exhibits good adhesion, stability and toughness and demonstrates efficient ...

From the sea to DNA barcode: Optimized preservation method for gelatinous zooplankton integrative taxonomy

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography: Methods, EarlyView.
Abstract Assigning taxonomic identity and thus assessing taxonomic diversity in gelatinous zooplankton is challenging due to their fragility and difficult preservation. Formalin fixation compromises DNA integrity, while flash‐freezing, ethanol, and acetone preservation affect morphological features. In this study, we developed a methodological protocol
