The magnetite-based receptors in the beak of birds and their role in avian navigation [PDF]
Iron-rich structures have been described in the beak of homing pigeons, chickens and several species of migratory birds and interpreted as magnetoreceptors.

Low-temperature magnetic properties of magnetite
Although several studies have recommended removal of secondary components of magnetic remanence by zero-field cycling from room temperature to a temperature much lower than the low temperature transition for magnetite (about 120 K), the method has not ...

Magnetoresistance of Magnetite
The transversal magnetoresistance was studied in single crystals of natural magnetite for different temperatures between 300 and 77 °K and in fields up to 10 kG. For temperatures above the transition point, i.e. in the cubic phase, the magnetoresistance is positive and shows a maximum at 5 kG.

Thiol-functionalised mesoporous silica-coated magnetite nanoparticles for high efficiency removal and recovery of Hg from water [PDF]
The preparation and testing of thiol-functionalised silica-coated magnetite nanoparticles (TF-SCMNPs) is described. The characteristics of these particles are assessed at different stages in the production process using X-ray diffraction (XRD ...

Simulation of Porous Magnetite Deposits on Steam Generator Tubes in Circulating Water at 270 °C
In the secondary side of pressurized water reactors (PWRs), the main corrosion product accumulated on the steam generator (SG) tubes is magnetite, which has a porous structure. The purpose of this work is to simulate the porous magnetite deposited to the

Effect of magnetostatic interactions on the hysteresis parameters of single-domain and psuedo-single domain grains [PDF]
From experiments it is known that magnetostatic interactions between grains strongly affect the magnetic behavior of samples. However, because of the difficulty in predicting the nonlinear behavior, the effect of interactions has been largely ignored ...

A Comparison between Chemical Synthesis Magnetite Nanoparticles and Biosynthesis Magnetite [PDF]
The preparation of Fe3O4from ferrous salt by air in alkaline aqueous solution at various temperatures was proposed. The synthetic magnetites have different particle size distributions. We studied the properties of the magnetite prepared by chemical methods compared with magnetotactic bacterial nanoparticles.

Slight Truncation Changes in Iron Oxide Nanocubes Strongly Affect Their Magnetic Properties
Subtle variations in nanoparticle morphology can lead to significant changes in functional properties. An automated shape‐fitting method captures minor differences in corner truncation between iron oxide nanocubes of similar sizes synthesized under identical conditions, revealing pronounced disparities in their magnetic and hyperthermia behavior ...
