Shaping Magnetite Nanoparticles from First Principles [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2019
Iron oxide magnetic nanoparticles (NPs) are stimuli-responsive materials at the forefront of nanomedicine. Their realistic finite temperature simulations are a formidable challenge for first-principles methods. Here, we use density functional tight binding to open up the required time and length scales and obtain global minimum structures of Fe3O4 NPs ...

Transformation mechanism of magnetite nanoparticles [PDF]

open access: yesMaterials Science-Poland, 2015
Abstract A simple oxidation synthesis route was developed for producing magnetite nanoparticles with controlled size and morphology. Investigation of oxidation process of the produced magnetite nanoparticles (NP) was performed after synthesis under different temperatures. The phase transformation of synthetic magnetite nanoparticles into

Mechanically Assisted Magnetic Actuation in Ceramic‐Based Microscrolls for Fast and Durable Soft Robotic Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Ceramic‐based V2O5/Fe3O4 hybrid films are shaped into butterfly‐proboscis‐inspired microscroll actuators. Magnetic triggering initiates unrolling, while geometry‐programmed elastic strain energy drives rapid recoil, enabling fast, reversible, durable, and load‐bearing actuation under near‐field magnetic stimulation.

Sonochemical coating of magnetite nanoparticles with silica

open access: yesUltrasonics Sonochemistry, 2010
Magnetite nanoparticles were coated with silica through the hydrolysis and condensation of tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) under ultrasonic irradiation. The ultrasonic irradiation was used to prevent the agglomeration of the magnetite particles and accelerate the hydrolysis and condensation of TEOS.
