Magnetic Levitation in the Analysis of Foods and Water

Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 2010
This paper describes a method and a sensor that use magnetic levitation (MagLev) to characterize samples of food and water on the basis of measurements of density. The sensor comprises two permanent NdFeB magnets positioned on top of each other in a configuration with like poles facing and a container filled with a solution of paramagnetic ions ...

Magnetic Water Treatment for a Less Tenacious Scale

Journal of Chemical Information and Computer Sciences, 2003
This paper discusses the mechanism for magnetic water treatment, which has been used practically for over a century but is still not completely understood. Modified crystallization and agglomeration, which produce a less tenacious scale, retain this property for hours following treatment.

Magnetically Controlled Mechanical Cutting of Water

Advanced Materials
Abstract Precisely controlling the cutting of water using mechanical forces remains challenging due to water's inherent surface tension and rapid self‐healing properties. Inspired by the effortless movement of water striders, a strategy is developed involving magnetic manipulation of a hydrophobic sphere across hydrophobic particle ...

Magnetic Field Deflects Water Jet

Langmuir
Deflection of a vertically falling jet of distilled water by a permanent magnetic field was studied experimentally and theoretically. Water jet with a diameter at the base of the jet d = 1.1 ± 0.05 mm was deflected by the magnetic field of intensity B = 0.63 ± 0.03 T produced by a permanent neodymium magnet.

Magnetically Augmented Water Treatment

Process Safety and Environmental Protection, 1997
A test rig was constructed to investigate the effect of orthogonally applied magnetic fields on solutions of calcium carbonate and accompanying changes in scale deposits formed from solution. The rig employed recirculated calcium carbonate solutions, which were passed through magnetic fields of strengths up to 7000 Gauss.

Equation for the magnetic susceptibility of water

The Journal of Chemical Physics, 1980
The new precision magnetic susceptibility data of Philo and Fairbank make it possible for the first time to look for a parallel between water’s response to a magnetic field and water’s response to an electric field. These volume susceptibility (κ) data measured at saturated vapor pressure over the temperature interval from 20 to 60 °C are found to ...

Pulsed and Water-Cooled Magnets

2013
Energy stored in capacitors (or inductances) can be pulsed through magnet coils to generate high magnetic fields to confine high-temperature plasma “pinches”, but such plasmas do not last long. Water-cooled copper coils can sustain magnetic fields for long times, but large coils consume hundreds of MW electrical power, so fusion reactors will probably ...
