Tuneable magneto-optical metamaterials based on photonic resonances in nickel nanorod arrays

open access: yesMaterials Research Express, 2014
We investigate the magneto-optical properties of a nanostructured metamaterial comprised of arrays of nickel nanorods embedded in an anodized aluminum oxide template.

Improved magneto–optical trapping of a diatomic molecule

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2015
We present experimental results from a new scheme for magneto–optically trapping strontium monofluoride (SrF) molecules, which provides increased confinement compared to our original work.

Narrow-line magneto-optical trap for dysprosium atoms

open access: yes, 2014
We present our technique to create a magneto-optical trap for dysprosium atoms using the narrow-line cooling transition at 626$\,$nm to achieve suitable conditions for direct loading into an optical dipole trap. The magneto-optical trap is loaded from an

Averaging out magnetic forces with fast rf-sweeps in an optical trap for metastable chromium atoms [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
We introduce a novel type of time-averaged trap, in which the internal state of the atoms is rapidly modulated to modify magnetic trapping potentials. In our experiment, fast radiofrequency (rf) linear sweeps flip the spin of atoms at a fast rate, which ...

Magneto-Optical Trap with Millimeter Ball Lenses [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Applied, 2020
We present a magneto-optical trap (MOT) design based on millimeter ball lenses, contained within a metal cube of 0.75$^{\prime \prime}$ side length. We present evidence of trapping approximately $4.2\times 10^5$ of $^{85}$Rb atoms with a number density of $3.2\times 10^9$ atoms/cm$^{3}$ and a loading time of 1.3 s.

Deep Laser Cooling of Thulium Atoms to Sub-µK Temperatures in Magneto-Optical Trap

open access: yesAtoms, 2023
Deep laser cooling of atoms, ions, and molecules facilitates the study of fundamental physics as well as applied research. In this work, we report on the narrow-line laser cooling of thulium atoms at the wavelength of 506.2nm with the natural linewidth ...

Formation of ultracold LiCs molecules [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
We present the first observation of ultracold LiCs molecules. The molecules are formed in a two-species magneto-optical trap and detected by two-photon ionization and time-of-flight mass spectrometry. The production rate coefficient is found to be in the

Collisions in a dual-species magneto-optical trap of molecules and atoms

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2021
We study inelastic collisions between CaF molecules and ^87 Rb atoms in a dual-species magneto-optical trap. The presence of atoms increases the loss rate of molecules from the trap.

A high flux source of cold strontium atoms

open access: yes, 2015
We describe an experimental apparatus capable of achieving a high loading rate of strontium atoms in a magneto-optical trap operating in a high vacuum environment. A key innovation of this setup is a two dimensional magneto-optical trap deflector located
