Focus on magnetoplasmonics

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2014
In this ‘focus on’ collection, a snapshot of the new, fast emerging field of magnetoplasmonics is presented. The research in the field deals with the combination of plasmonics and magnetism to elucidate the fundamentals of spin--plasmon interactions and ...

Nonlinear Magneto-Optics of Fe Monolayers from first principles: Structural dependence and spin-orbit coupling strength

open access: yes, 1997
We calculate the nonlinear magneto-optical response of free-standing fcc (001), (110) and (111) oriented Fe monolayers. The bandstructures are determined from first principles using a full-potential LAPW method with the additional implementation of spin ...

Effect of WO3 on physical and magneto-optical properties of TeO2–La2O3–WO3 glasses for magneto-optics application

open access: yesResults in Physics, 2022
The ternary TeO2–La2O3–WO3 glasses with a formula of (100 − y − x)TeO2–yLa2O3–xWO3 (y = 5 and 10 mol%; x  = 10 to 25 mol%) were made by the melting and casting method for high Verdet constant diamagnetic magneto-optical (MO) materials in the application ...

Measurement of Fluctuation-induced Diamagnetism in BSCCO-2212 single crystals using Magneto-optics

open access: yes, 2006
Fluctuation induced diamagnetism in BSCCO single crystals with different doping levels (i.e., different oxygen stoichiometry) was measured using magneto-optics (MO) in a wide frequency range up to several MHz.

Indirect Band Edge and Chain‐Locked Linear Dichroism in the Quasi‐1D Van der Waals Antiferromagnet AgCrP2S6

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
AgCrP2S6 reveals a momentum‐indirect band edge (≈1.35 eV) and chain‐locked linear dichroism: the first direct transitions emerge at 1.6–1.8 eV for E||a. Resonant Raman and photoemission corroborate this assignment. In ACPS/graphene heterostructures, photocurrent turns on above ≈1.5 eV and follows the same polarization selection rules (anisotropy ≈0.53),

Revealing broken valley symmetry of quantum emitters in WSe2 with chiral nanocavities

open access: yesNature Communications, 2023
Single photon emission of quantum emitters (QEs) carrying internal degrees of freedom such as spin and angular momentum plays an important role in quantum optics.

Magneto-optics of massive Dirac fermions in bulk Bi2Se3

open access: yes, 2015
We report on magneto-optical studies of Bi2Se3, a representative member of the 3D topological insulator family. Its electronic states in bulk are shown to be well described by a simple Dirac-type Hamiltonian for massive particles with only two parameters:

Drug‐Free Thrombolysis Mediated by Physically Activated Micro/Nanoparticles

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Overview of particle‐mediated thrombolytic effects (thermal, mechanical, and chemical) and their activating physical stimuli (light, ultrasound, and magnetic field) in drug‐free thrombolysis. ABSTRACT Thrombus‐associated disorders rank among the world's leading causes of death, with ischemic heart disease and stroke as the main contributors.

Magnetic states and optical properties of single-layer carbon-doped hexagonal boron nitride

open access: yes, 2012
We show that carbon-doped hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) has extraordinary properties with many possible applications. We demonstrate that the substitution-induced impurity states, associated with carbon atoms, and their interactions dictate the ...

Electro-magneto-optical Effects

open access: yesArchive for Rational Mechanics and Analysis, 1961
Electro-magneto-optical effects in stationary materials are observed when the materials are placed in strong, static electric or magnetic fields and an electromagnetic wave (light) traverses the medium. The Faraday effect is an example of the class of phenomena we have in mind. Clearly, the existence of electromagneto- optical effects in material media
