Finite banana width effect on magnetoacoustic cyclotron instability

Physics of Plasmas, 1995
The finite banana width (FBW) effect on the coupling between magnetoacoustic waves and the near harmonic gyro-oscillations of the energetic ions/α particles in tokamaks are studied. The gyrokinetic equation with FBW effect is rederived for the energetic trapped ions.

The magnetoacoustic cyclotron instability of an extended shell distribution of energetic ions

Physics of Fluids B: Plasma Physics, 1993
The magnetoacoustic cyclotron instability is a mechanism by which waves on the perpendicular fast Alfvén-ion Bernstein branch can be excited through cyclotron resonance with an energetic ion population. It is a candidate emission mechanism for the superthermal ion cyclotron radiation, apparently associated with the products of fusion reactions, that ...

Superthermal radiation from tokamak plasmas caused by cyclotron magnetoacoustic instability

Nuclear Fusion, 2000
The electromagnetic power in the ion cyclotron frequency range radiated by a tokamak plasma with energetic ions is considered. It is found that the radiation may result from plasma fluctuations which are associated with the edge localized fast magnetoacoustic eigenmodes and strongly enhanced by interaction with the energetic ions.

Edge-Localized Thermonuclear Magnetoacoustic-Cyclotron Instability in Tokamaks

Fusion Technology, 1994
The distribution function of fast alpha particles in a tokamak plasma near the outer circumference of the torus is obtained. Calculations are carried out for an axisymmetric tokamak for which the alpha-particle banana width is small in comparison with the plasma radius but sufficiently large to provide the presence of trapped alpha particles, produced ...
