Simulations of Relativistic Force‐free Magnetohydrodynamic Turbulence

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2005
We present numerical studies of 3-dimensional magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) turbulence in a strongly magnetized medium in the extremely relativistic limit, in which the inertia of the charge carriers can be neglected. We have focused on strong Alfvenic turbulence in the limit. We have found the following results.

Physical Constraint Preserving Higher-order Finite Volume Schemes for Divergence-free Astrophysical MHD and RMHD

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Higher-order finite volume schemes for magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) and relativistic magnetohydrodynamics (RMHD) are very valuable because they allow us to carry out astrophysical simulations with very high accuracy.

Particle Acceleration and Magnetic Field Amplification by Relativistic Shocks in Inhomogeneous Media

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
Particle acceleration and magnetic field amplification in relativistic shocks propagating in inhomogeneous media are investigated by three-dimensional magnetohydrodynamical (MHD) simulations and test-particle simulations.

Collapse and Fragmentation of Rotating Magnetized Clouds. I. Magnetic Flux - Spin Relation

open access: yes, 2005
We discuss evolution of the magnetic flux density and angular velocity in a molecular cloud core, on the basis of three-dimensional numerical simulations, in which a rotating magnetized cloud fragments and collapses to form a very dense optically thick ...

Relativistic magnetohydrodynamics simulations of extragalactic jets [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
We have developed a simulation code which solves the equations of relativistic magnetohydrodynamics in conservation form. It was used to conduct a parameter study of two-dimensional, axisymmetric models for radio jets. The simulations show that a toroidal magnetic field affects the dynamics and morphology of jets in numerous ways, while a poloidal ...

The Evolution of Substructure during Star Cluster Assembly

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Star cluster formation and assembly occur inside filamentary and turbulent molecular clouds, which imprint both spatial and kinematic substructure on the young cluster.

Simulations of Nonthermal Electron Transport in Multidimensional Flows: Synthetic Observations of Radio Galaxies

open access: yes, 1999
We have applied an effective numerical scheme for cosmic-ray transport to 3D MHD simulations of jet flow in radio galaxies (see the companion paper by Jones et al. 1999).

Smoothed Particle Magnetohydrodynamics (some shocking results...)

open access: yes, 2003
There have been some issues in the past in attempts to simulate magnetic fields using the Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) method. SPH is well suited to star formation problems because of its Lagrangian nature.
