Potential vorticity in magnetohydrodynamics [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Plasma Physics, 2014
A version of Noether's second theorem using Lagrange multipliers is used to investigate fluid relabelling symmetries conservation laws in magnetohydrodynamics (MHD). We obtain a new generalized potential vorticity type conservation equation for MHD which takes into account entropy gradients and the J × B force on the plasma due to the current J and ...

A Second-Order Unsplit Godunov Scheme for Cell-Centered MHD: the CTU-GLM scheme [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We assess the validity of a single step Godunov scheme for the solution of the magneto-hydrodynamics equations in more than one dimension. The scheme is second-order accurate and the temporal discretization is based on the dimensionally unsplit Corner ...

Magnetic Field‐Driven Catalysis: Revealing Enhanced Oxygen Reactions in Li‐O2 Batteries Using Tailored Magnetic Nanocatalysts

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A series of Mn‐Co‐Fe oxides with different saturated magnetization (Ms) are prepared to evaluate the enhancement catalytic properties of magnetic catalysts on Li‐O2 batteries (LOBs). A deep understanding of the intricate relationship between the magnetism of electrocatalysts and the corresponding performance of LOBs under the influence of magnetic ...

Stability of an Axisymmetric Liquid Metal Flow Driven by a Multi-Pole Rotating Magnetic Field

open access: yesFluids, 2019
The stability of an electrically conducting fluid flow in a cylinder driven by a multi-pole rotating magnetic field is numerically studied. A time-averaged Lorentz force term including the electric potential is derived on the condition that the skin ...

A Compact, High‐Performance, and Deformation‐Resilient Trielectrode Electrostatic Soft Pump for Soft Robotics

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, Volume 7, Issue 3, March 2025.
Existing soft pumps often require tradeoffs between performance and compatibility with soft robotic systems. The proposed trielectrode electrostatic soft pump addresses these limitations through an innovative driving mechanism. Its design, which includes a trielectrode configuration and the use of compliant materials, improves operational efficiency ...

Dissipative Processes and Their Role in the Evolution of Radio Galaxies

open access: yesGalaxies, 2019
Particle acceleration in relativistic jets, to very high levels of energy, occurs at the expense of the dissipation of magnetic or kinetic energy. Therefore, understanding the processes that can trigger this dissipation is key to the characterization of ...

Influence of Low Magnetic Fields on Hydrogen Evolution Reaction Performance of NiCoP Electrocatalysts

open access: yesChemPhysChem, EarlyView.
Herein, electrocatalytic activity enhancement is reported of NiCoP nanorods by applying an external magnetic field. The NiCoP nanorods exhibit an overpotential of 100 mV at 10 mA cm−2 without magnetic field. However, under low magnetic field of 2000 G, the overpotential reduces to 62 mV at 10 mA cm−2 in 0.5 M H2SO4, demonstrating that external magnetic
