Magnetohydrodynamic jets*

open access: yesPhysics of Plasmas, 1994
In a series of three idealized magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) calculations in cylindrical geometry, we show that an azimuthal magnetic field can produce well-collimated jets by the pinch effect. In a laser-produced plasma, the magnetic field is generated by crossed density and temperature gradients (∇n×∇T), and may be responsible for the ‘‘imprint problem.’’

On the convexity of Relativistic Ideal Magnetohydrodynamics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We analyze the influence of the magnetic field in the convexity properties of the relativistic magnetohydrodynamics system of equations. To this purpose we use the approach of Lax, based on the analysis of the linearly degenerate/genuinely non-linear ...

Experimental, numerical and analytical evaluation of -thrust for fast-liquid-metal-flow divertor systems of nuclear fusion devices

open access: yesNuclear Fusion, 2023
Divertor systems of fusion devices are exposed to intense heat loads from plasmas, which degrade solid plasma-facing components. Fast liquid metal (LM) flow divertors may be more advantageous for this purpose but have risk of piling due to intense ...

Lattice Boltzmann Magnetohydrodynamics

open access: yes, 1994
Lattice gas and lattice Boltzmann methods are recently developed numerical schemes for simulating a variety of physical systems. In this paper a new lattice Boltzmann model for modeling two-dimensional incompressible magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) is ...

Probing non-linear MHD stability of the EDA H-mode in ASDEX Upgrade

open access: yesNuclear Fusion, 2023
Regimes of operation in tokamaks that are devoid of large edge localised modes have to be better understood to extrapolate their applicability to reactor-relevant devices.

An extended hybrid magnetohydrodynamics gyrokinetic model for numerical simulation of shear Alfv\'en waves in burning plasmas

open access: yes, 2010
Adopting the theoretical framework for the generalized fishbonelike dispersion relation, an extended hybrid magnetohydrodynamics gyrokinetic simulation model has been derived analytically by taking into account both thermal ion compressibility and ...

Nonlinear Magnetohydrodynamics from Gravity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We apply the recently established connection between nonlinear fluid dynamics and AdS gravity to the case of the dyonic black brane in AdS_4. This yields the equations of fluid dynamics for a 2+1 dimensional charged fluid in a background magnetic field ...

MHD squeezed Darcy–Forchheimer nanofluid flow between two h–distance apart horizontal plates

open access: yesOpen Physics, 2020
This research is mainly concerned with the characteristics of magnetohydrodynamics and Darcy–Forchheimer medium in nanofluid flow between two horizontal plates.

3D MHD analysis of prototypical manifold for liquid metal blankets

open access: yesNuclear Fusion, 2023
The water-cooled lead lithium (WCLL) and the dual-cooled lead lithium (DCLL) are two of the breeding blanket (BB) concepts that the EUROfusion consortium is pursuing in the framework of the development of the fusion reactor industrial demonstrator DEMO ...

Relativistic MHD with Adaptive Mesh Refinement [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
This paper presents a new computer code to solve the general relativistic magnetohydrodynamics (GRMHD) equations using distributed parallel adaptive mesh refinement (AMR).
