Simultaneous Thermo-Magnetorheological Response of Magnetorheological Fluids: Effect of Concentration and Composition

IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 2021
The rheological behavior of magnetorheological fluids (MRFs) is greatly influenced by many key parameters such as concentration, composition, temperature, and magnetic field. As magnetic particles are dispersed in a non-magnetic liquid, MRFs exhibit an increase in viscosity with increasing magnetic fields due to the formation of chain-like structures ...

IRREVERSIBLE EFFECTS IN MAGNETORHEOLOGICAL FLUIDS

Electro-Rheological Fluids and Magneto-Rheological Suspensions, 2011
The effect of residual structure on properties of MR fluids, based on CI particles, was investigated using a magneto-sweep technique and initial magnetic susceptibility measurements. The shear rate, particle size, and the CI surface properties were among the experimental variables.

Frequency-Dependent on the Magnetorheological Effect of Magnetorheological Plastomer

2020
A low cross-linked magnetic polymer matrix also known as magnetorheological plastomer (MR plastomer) containing micron-sized carbonyl iron particles (CIPs) is a new kind of MR materials. MR plastomer can be prepared by two main methods which are physically and chemically crosslinking. However, the study on the dynamic properties of involving chemically

Influence of Friction on Magnetorheological Effect

2023
The magnetorheological effect (MR effect) used to be believed to be dominated by magnetic dipole interactions among carbonyl iron particles. In this chapter, friction as an important factor is introduced in the MR effect. The shear history effect of MR fluids was ascribed to not yet relaxed pre-formed chain/column structure.

The effect of nano-silica and nano-magnetite on the magnetorheological fluid stabilization and magnetorheological effect

Journal of Intelligent Material Systems and Structures, 2015
In this study, the effect of adding magnetizable and non-magnetizable nano particles (magnetite and fumed silica) to magnetorheological fluids was investigated experimentally. The results showed a great increase up to six times in magnetorheological effect when using magnetite in comparison to nano particle–free magnetorheological fluids.

A study of the magnetorheological effect of bimodal particle based magnetorheological elastomers

Smart Materials and Structures, 2010
This paper presents theoretical and experimental studies of the mechanical performance and magnetorheological effects of magnetorheological elastomers (MREs) fabricated with mixtures of large and small particles. First of all, an effective permeability model was developed to theoretically analyze the MR effect of bimodal particle based MR elastomers ...

Magnetostrictive effect of magnetorheological elastomer

Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials, 2008
Abstract Magnetorheological elastomer (MRE) has been known for its magnetic field-dependent stiffness, but only a few works study its magnetostrictive property. The aim of this paper is to present results of studies on magnetostriction of the MRE consisting of carbonyl iron particles displaced in the matrix made of a silicone rubber.

Some features of the magnetorheological effect

Journal of Engineering Physics and Thermophysics, 1997
The Theological properties of magnetorheological suspensions (MRS) are investigated in a wide concentration range of particles of the disperse ferromagnetic phase in the presence of a magnetic field. It is shown that, along with an increase in the concentration of ferromagnetic particles, the range of control of the viscous stress increment in an MRS ...

Effect of particle shape in magnetorheology

Journal of Rheology, 2010
Magnetorheological (MR) properties were investigated for sphere, plate, and rod-like iron particles in suspension under the presence of magnetic fields to ascertain the effect of particle shape in MR performance. A novel two-step synthesis route for micrometer sized iron particles with different morphologies is described in detail.

Preparation of well-dispersed magnetorheological fluids and effect of dispersion on their magnetorheological properties

Rheologica Acta, 2008
In this work, we describe methods for the preparation of suspensions of micron-sized iron particles grafted with different surfactants. The aim is to obtain well-dispersed magnetorheological (MR) fluids. The effectiveness of the surfactants as dispersants was analyzed quantitatively by means of rheological measurements.
