In order to obtain magnetorheological (MR) elastomers with high magnetorheological effect, a family of anisotropic rubber-based MR elastomers was developed using a new form of chemical modification. Three different kinds of surfactants, i.e. anionic, nonionic and compound surfactants, were employed separately to modify iron particles. The MR effect was

Particle sedimentation in magnetorheological fluid and its effect
2017 IEEE International Conference on Advanced Intelligent Mechatronics (AIM), 2017Particle sedimentation is one of the main issues affecting magnetorheological fluids (MRF). Though short-term testing methods are useful for their development, such methods have not looked into the effect of sedimentation. In this study, we use an ordinary angle rotor as a centrifugal accelerator, and experimentally compare the sedimentation ratio ...

Research on reducing the edge effect in magnetorheological finishing
Applied Optics, 2011The edge effect could not be avoided in most optical manufacturing methods based on the theory of computer controlled optical surfacing. The difference between the removal function at the workpiece edge and that inside it is also the primary cause for edge effect in magnetorheological finishing (MRF).

THE ROLE OF PARTICLES ANNEALING TEMPERATURE ON MAGNETORHEOLOGICAL EFFECT
Electro-Rheological Fluids and Magneto-Rheological Suspensions, 2011The spinel nanocrystalline cobalt ferrite ( CoFe 2 O 4) particles were prepared via a sol–gel method followed by the annealing process. Their structural, magnetic and magnetorheological (MR) properties depending upon the annealing temperature were investigated.

Electrostatic and hydrodynamics effects in a sedimented magnetorheological suspension
Physical Review E, 2009We present experimental results on the equilibrium microstructure of a sedimented magnetorheological suspension, namely, an aqueous suspension of micron-sized superparamagnetic particles. We develop a study of the electrical interactions on the suspension by processing video-microscopy images of the sedimented particles.

Shear history effect of magnetorheological fluids
Smart Materials and Structures, 2015The rheological properties of magnetorheological (MR) fluids are usually determined by particle structures and polarized particle interactions. However, the particle structures may undergo various evolutions at different shear states and history; this evolution leads to shear stress hysteresis.

On the effect of particle porosity and roughness in magnetorheology
Journal of Applied Physics, 2011We report a study on the mechanical properties of magnetorheological (MR) fluids prepared with porous iron particles with rough surfaces. These particles were obtained by reducing a magnetite precursor in a H2 atmosphere at 400 °C. Small-amplitude dynamic oscillatory and steady shear flow measurements were carried out in the presence of external ...

Effect of particle aspect ratio in magnetorheology
Smart Materials and Structures, 2015We investigate the influence of the aspect ratio of the dispersed particles in magnetorheology. Two systems are studied: conventional magnetorheological fluids prepared by dispersion of nickel nanowires, and inverse ferrofluids prepared by dispersion of glass fibers in a ferrofluid.

Nonlinear Magnetostrictive Effect of Magnetorheological Elastomers
Advanced Materials Research, 2013Magnetorheological elastomers (MREs) are a class of smart composites whose mechanical properties can be obviously changed under different magnetic field. Only a few works study its magnetostrictive property, which describes the changes in dimensions of a material in its magnetization.
