Magnetotactic Bacteria and Magnetosomes: Basic Properties and Applications
Magnetotactic bacteria (MTB) belong to several phyla. This class of microorganisms exhibits the ability of magneto-aerotaxis. MTB synthesize biominerals in organelle-like structures called magnetosomes, which contain single-domain crystals of magnetite ...

Magnetic Study of Co-Doped Magnetosome Chains [PDF]
Magnetotactic bacteria synthesize a chain of magnetic nanoparticles, called magnetosome chain, used to align and swim along the geomagnetic field lines. In particular, Magnetospirillum gryphiswaldense biomineralize magnetite, Fe3O4. Growing this species in a Co-supplemented medium, Co-doped magnetite is obtained, tailoring in this way the magnetic ...

The Effect of Sonication on Acoustic Properties of Biogenic Ferroparticle Suspension
Superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPION) synthesised chemically usually need the modification of the particle surface. Other natural sources of magnetic particles are various magnetotactic bacteria.

Immobilisation of lipase enzyme onto bacterial magnetosomes for stain removal
Lipase was immobilized onto bacterial magnetosomes using glutaraldehyde cross-linking and confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectrometry (FT-IR) and Scanning electron microscopy (SEM).

Magnetosomes and Magneto-Aerotaxis
Magnetotactic bacteria orient and migrate along geomagnetic field lines. Magneto-aerotaxis increases the efficiency of respiring microaerophilic cells to efficiently find and maintain a position at a preferred microaerobic oxygen concentration.

Characterization of the bacterial magnetosome membrane [PDF]
Intact magnetosomes of Aquaspirillum magnetotacticum were purified from broken cells by a magnetic separation technique. Electron microscopic and chemical analyses revealed the magnetite to be enclosed by a lipid bilayer admixed with proteins.
