A Homogeneous Earthquake Catalog for Western Turkey and Magnitude of Completeness Determination
Abstract A catalog for earthquakes that occurred in western Turkey during the period 1964–2010 is compiled for achieving homogeneity for magnitudes. Data are obtained from the International Seismological Center (ISC), where earthquake magnitudes are reported in different scales and come from a variety of sources.

Northeast India region is one of the most seismically active areas in the world. Events data for the period 1897–2010, used in this study has been largely compiled from global ISC, NEIC and GCMT databases. Historical seismicity catalogue of Gupta et al (1986) and some events data from the bulletins of India Meteorological Department are also used ...

Phononic crystal as a homogeneous viscous metamaterial
A homogenization theory, representing the low-frequency limit, is developed for a phononic crystal of cylinders embedded in a viscous fluid. The decay coefficient of sound due to viscosity is calculated analytically for any two-dimensional Bravais ...

A non-centrosymmetric square lattice with an axial–bending coupling
Metamaterials can enable the design of exotic properties, including the mechanical coupling of different loading modes. Chirality and non-centrosymmetry are known to play essential roles in the rational design of coupling effects.

Animals must match their growth rate to available nutrients. We show that in Drosophila larvae, the nutrient‐sensing TOR kinase controls growth by regulating levels of TFAM, a key regulator of mitochondrial function, in the adipose tissue. When nutrients are abundant, high TOR activity suppresses TFAM, lowering mitochondrial bioenergetic activity and ...

Modelling of acoustic transmission through perforated layer [PDF]
The paper deals with modeling the acoustic transmission through a perforated interface plane separating two halfspaces occupied by the acoustic medium. We considered the two-scale homogenization limit of the standard acoustic problem imposed in the layer

Mycobacterial 3‐methylcrotonyl‐CoA carboxylase uses a mobile biotin‐carrying domain to shuttle a carboxyl group between two catalytic sites, enabling carboxylation of 3‐methylcrotonyl‐CoA during leucine breakdown. Cryo‐electron microscopy captures the carrier at both sites and reveals an inward loop movement that may prevent futile rebinding to the ...

Loss of proton‐sensing TDAG8 increases tumor progression in mouse models of colon cancer
Loss of the pH‐sensing receptor TDAG8 accelerates colorectal cancer progression in mice. Animals lacking TDAG8 expression had increased tumor growth, DNA damage, and recruitment of tumor‐associated immune cells, including macrophages, neutrophils, and monocytes.
