A review of wind turbine main bearings: design, operation, modelling, damage mechanisms and fault detection [PDF]
This paper presents a review of existing theory and practice relating to main bearings for wind turbines. The main bearing performs the critical role of supporting the turbine rotor, with replacements typically requiring its complete removal.

Impacts of wind field characteristics and non-steady deterministic wind events on time-varying main-bearing loads [PDF]
This work considers the characteristics and drivers of the loads experienced by wind turbine main bearings. Simplified load response models of two different hub and main-bearing configurations are presented, representative of both inverting direct-drive ...

Optimization of crankshaft main bearing lubrication performance considering bearing profiles
Abstract It is the aim of this work to reduce friction power loss of main bearings by optimization. To this purpose, elastohydrodynamic (EHD) model is used for EHD calculations for different main bearings. BP neural network is implemented to establish the approximation model for bearings.

Main Bearing Stiffness Investigation
Simplified coupled engine block-crankshaft models based on beam theory provide an efficient substitute to engine simulation in the design process. These models require accurate definition of the main bearing stiffness. In this paper, an investigation of this stiffness is presented. The clearance effect is studied using a smooth bearing model.

Effect of a generic main bearing catalogue on the power density of main bearing system predesigns
Abstract Main bearings for wind turbines (WTs) are typically custom made and not chosen from a public bearing catalogue. Predesigning the WT main bearing system (MBS) based on public bearing catalogues, the uneven distribution of bearing types, diameters and width can result in a suboptimal bearing selection.
