Utility of the Clinical Frailty Scale, Charlson Comorbidity Index and ACS NSQIP Surgical Risk Calculator in major lower limb orthopaedic surgery

open access: yesInternal Medicine Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Background With major lower limb orthopaedic surgery performed in increasingly older and comorbid patients, accurate risk prediction is essential to guide perioperative management and shared decision‐making. Aims To compare the Clinical Frailty Scale (CFS), Charlson Comorbidity Index (CCI) and the American College of Surgeons National Surgical

Annual Research Review: A probe into sensitive periods – how the developmental timing of adverse childhood experiences influences brain structure and function – a systematic review

open access: yesJournal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry, EarlyView.
It is proposed that adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) – potent predictors of mental illness – exert time‐dependent effects on neurodevelopment, reflecting periods of heightened neuroplasticity and developmental sensitivity. We systematically reviewed neuroimaging studies examining the role of timing in the association of ACE exposure with brain ...

Influence of age on the development of stress hyperglycemia during first‐onset ST‐elevation myocardial infarction

open access: yesJournal of Diabetes Investigation, EarlyView.
Among 8,779 non‐diabetic patients with first‐onset STEMI, older age was associated with a higher likelihood of stress hyperglycemia. However, the excess mortality risk associated with stress hyperglycemia was greatest in younger patients and attenuated with advancing age, highlighting the possibility of age‐dependent prognostic significance.

WTAP‐mediated m6A RNA methylation promotes diabetic foot ulcer healing under negative pressure wound therapy

open access: yesJournal of Diabetes Investigation, EarlyView.
NPWT significantly increases the suppressed WTAP and m6A levels in DFU patients, correlating directly with better 4‐week healing outcomes. In vitro, negative pressure reverses high‐glucose‐induced WTAP downregulation, restoring the cell proliferation and migration necessary for wound repair.

Association between thyroid feedback quantile‐based index and the risk of in‐hospital amputation in patients with diabetic foot ulcer

open access: yesJournal of Diabetes Investigation, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aims To investigate the relationship between the thyroid feedback quantile‐based index (TFQI) and the risk of amputation during hospitalization in patients with diabetic foot ulcers (DFU). Methods This single‐center retrospective study included 381 hospitalized patients with DFU and normal thyroid function.
