Discriminant Functions and Majority Voting

Management Science, 1975
This paper is based on the notion of discriminatory power of a pattern classifier acting over a feature space. Discriminant functions are normally used to trace out regions of the feature space corresponding to specific pattern classes. Indeterminate cases occur whenever a pattern lies on a class boundary.

Lymphocyte function in major depression

Acta Psychiatrica Scandinavica, 1989
Immunologic function as measured by lymphocyte response to phytohemagglutinin (PHA) mitogen was evaluated in 8 psychiatric inpatients. All were less than 45 years of age and had a DSM-III diagnosis of major depression. When patient's immunologic responses were compared with healthy age- and sex-matched controls, a significant increase in PHA mitogen ...

Endocrine Function in Thalassemia Major

The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, 1968
Abstract Seven patients with thalassemia major, ranging in age from 6½ to 23 yr, were studied. Growth retardation was present in all except the youngest patient. Thyroid and adrenal function was normal. Three patients, however, showed an unexplained increase in the serum protein bound iodine level.

QSAR Toolbox – workflow and major functionalities

SAR and QSAR in Environmental Research, 2016
The OECD QSAR Toolbox is a software application intended to be used by governments, the chemical industry and other stakeholders in filling gaps in (eco)toxicity data needed for assessing the hazards of chemicals. The development and release of the Toolbox is a cornerstone in the computerization of hazard assessment, providing an 'all inclusive' tool ...

Lactoferrin: Major Physiological Functions and Applications

Current Protein & Peptide Science, 2018
Lactoferrin (lactotransferrin; Lf) is an iron-binding glycoprotein and one of the most important bioactivators in milk and other external secretions. It has numerous biological roles, including the regulation of iron absorption and modulation of immune responses, and has anti-microbial, anti-viral, antioxidant, anti-cancer, and anti-inflammatory ...

Inequalities for Majorizing Analytic Functions

Journal of Mathematical Sciences, 2006
Summary: For analytic functions satisfying Meyman's majorization conditions, with the use of classical properties of conformal mappings exact inequalities complementing and strengthening the results of Akhiezer and Meyman are derived. As a corollary, for the modulus of the derivative of a rationally-trigonometric function a Bernstein type bound, which ...

Lymphocyte Function in Major Depressive Disorder

Archives of General Psychiatry, 1984
Lymphocyte stimulation by phytohemagglutinin, concanavalin A, and pokeweed mitogen was significantly lower in a group of hospitalized depressed patients than in matched controls. The absolute number of T and B cells was lower in the depressed group, but the percentage of these cell types did not differ between the groups.

Adrenocortical function after major gastric surgery

The American Journal of Surgery, 1973
Summary Surgical damage to the adrenal gland caused by major gastric surgery has been reported in the literature; however, the influence on adrenocortical function has not been investigated and the frequency of its occurrence is uncertain. In ten patients with carcinoma of the stomach the functional adrenocortical reserve was determined before and ...

Major genetic mechanisms in pulmonary function

Journal of Clinical Epidemiology, 1990
Regressive models were used to search for possible major gene effects on pulmonary function in two groups of families: one ascertained through patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease [COPD defined as forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1) less than 70% forced vital capacity (FVC)] and the other ascertained through patients with non ...

Nuclear Lamins: Thin Filaments with Major Functions

Trends in Cell Biology, 2018
The nuclear lamina is a nuclear peripheral meshwork that is mainly composed of nuclear lamins, although a small fraction of lamins also localizes throughout the nucleoplasm. Lamins are classified as type V intermediate filament (IF) proteins. Mutations in lamin genes cause at least 15 distinct human diseases, collectively termed laminopathies ...
