Increased liver content of DHA‐derived small lipid autacoids (i.e resolvin D1 and maresin 1) associates with enhanced mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation, fatty acid β‐oxidation and bioenergetic metabolic flux. These features provide hepatic protection from steatotic, pro‐inflammatory and fibrogenic insults.

The Predicted Structure of a Thermophilic Malate Synthase
This project aims to solve the structure of the crenarchaeal Sulfolobus acidocaldarius enzyme malate synthase. Other known malate synthase enzymes have been found to require a magnesium ion in the active site to carry out catalytic activities, but a study reported that S. acidocaldarius malate synthase does not require magnesium.

The NADPH oxidase NOX4 regulates redox and metabolic homeostasis preventing HCC progression
Loss of NOX4 in HCC tumor cells induces metabolic reprogramming in a Nrf2/MYC‐dependent manner to promote HCC progression. Abstract Background and Aims The NADPH oxidase NOX4 plays a tumor‐suppressor function in HCC. Silencing NOX4 confers higher proliferative and migratory capacity to HCC cells and increases their in vivo tumorigenic potential in ...

CYTOCHEMICAL LOCALIZATION OF MALATE SYNTHASE IN GLYOXYSOMES [PDF]
Cytochemical staining techniques for microbodies (peroxisomes) are limited at present to the enzymes catalase and α-hydroxy acid oxidase, and neither technique can distinguish glyoxysomes from other microbodies. Described here is a procedure using ferricyanide for the cytochemical demonstration by light and electron microscopy of malate synthase ...

Determination of acetyl coenzyme A. Interference by a contaminant in malate dehydrogenase
Spectrophotometric determinations of acetyl CoA with malate dehydrogenase and citrate synthase are likely to overestimate the amount of acetyl CoA in solutions containing acetoacetyl CoA, since commercial preparations of malate dehydrogenase may contain ...

Location of catalase in crystalline peroxisomes of methanol-grown Hansenula polymorpha [PDF]
We have studied the intraperoxisomal location of catalase in peroxisomes of methanol-grown Hansenula polymorpha by (immuno)cytochemical means. In completely crystalline peroxisomes, in which the crystalline matrix is composed of octameric alcohol oxidase

Malate and Aspartate Increase L-Arginine and Nitric Oxide and Attenuate Hypertension
Fumarase catalyzes the interconversion of fumarate and L-malate in the tricarboxylic acid cycle. The Dahl salt-sensitive (SS) rat, a model of salt-sensitive hypertension, exhibits fumarase insufficiencies.

LC-MS proteomics analysis of the iInsulin/IGF-1-deficient Caenorhabditis elegans daf-2(e1370) mutant reveals extensive restructuring of intermediary metabolism [PDF]
The insulin/IGF-1 receptor is a major known determinant of dauer formation, stress resistance, longevity, and metabolism in Caenorhabditis elegans. In the past, whole-genome transcript profiling was used extensively to study differential gene expression ...
