Assessment of matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization-time of flight mass spectrometry for identification and biotyping of the pathogenic oomycete Pythium insidiosum

open access: yesInternational Journal of Infectious Diseases, 2018
Objective: Pythiosis is a life-threatening infectious disease caused by the oomycete Pythium insidiosum. The disease has been increasingly reported worldwide. Most patients with pythiosis undergo surgical removal of an infected organ.

Ultrastable Self‐Cross‐linkable Electro‐Optic Materials Based on a Bisanthracene Scaffold

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
A novel bisanthracene‐based self‐cross‐linkable electro‐optic chromophore (TD2) is developed. TD2 exhibits a high r33 of 141 pm/V and a cross‐linked Tg up to 195 °C, retaining 99.75% of its initial EO response after 500 h at 85 °C, showing record‐high thermal stability for single‐molecule self‐cross‐linking EO materials.

Controlling Self‐Doping in Conjugated Polyelectrolyte Copolymers to Vary the Threshold Voltage in OECTs

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
Two series of self‐doped conjugated polyelectrolytes are synthesized from a non‐self‐dopable building block 3MEEET and a self‐dopable building‐block 3HOT−[TMA+] or 3HOT−[SO3H] enabling precise control over the degree of self‐doping, which in turn directly governs the threshold voltage (VT) in OECTs over a wide range of 700 mV.

De Novo Discovery of Nonstandard Thioisoindole‐Bridged Bicyclic Peptides Targeting Traf2‐ and NCK‐Interacting Kinase

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
An optimized strategy for the ribosomal synthesis of thioisoindole‐bridged bicyclic (TiB) peptides is incorporated into the RaPID platform, enabling high‐throughput discovery from topologically defined TiB libraries. Proof‐of‐concept selection against TNIK identifies nanomolar‐affinity ligands with inhibitory activity, while x‐ray crystallography ...

Heterobimetallic Janus Catalysts for the One‐Pot Synthesis of Polar‐Apolar Block Copolymers

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Heterobimetallic Janus catalysts act as bifunctional initiators, combining two distinct polymerisation mechanisms in one pot to deliver well‐defined apolar‐polar block copolymers. Combining Earth abundant Ti and Al catalysts for respective α‐olefin and lactone polymerisation, the orthogonal activity is enabled by unprecedented initiation from a Ti ...

Comparison of biomarker based Matrix Assisted Laser Desorption Ionization-Time of Flight Mass Spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS) and conventional methods in the identification of clinically relevant bacteria and yeast

open access: yesBMC Microbiology, 2017
Background MALDI-TOF MS is an analytical method that has recently become integral in the identification of microorganisms in clinical laboratories. It relies on databases that majorly employ pattern recognition or fingerprinting.

Mechanical Caging of Nucleic Acids Enabled by Light‐Activated Synthetic Molecular Motors

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
A synthetic light‐driven molecular motor imposes mechanical constraints on nucleic acids, enabling “mechanical caging” as a new mode to regulate DNA structure and function through mechanical input rather than chemical masking. ABSTRACT Control over nucleic acid activity is central to biotechnology and therapeutic development.
