Adverse prognosis gene expression patterns in metastatic castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We aggregated a cohort of 1012 mCRPC tissue samples from 769 patients and investigated the association of gene expression‐based pathways with clinical outcomes. Loss of AR signaling, high proliferation, and a glycolytic phenotype were independently prognostic for poor outcomes, and an adverse transcriptional feature score incorporating these pathways ...

Modeling sexual selection in Túngara frog and rationality of mate choice [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2016
The males of the specie of frogs Engystomops pustulosus produce simple and com- plex calls to lure females, as a way of Intersexual selection. Complex calls lead males to a greater reproductive success than simple calls do. However, the complex calls are also more attractive to the main predator of these amphibians, the bat Trachops cirrhosus ...

Plasma lipidomic and metabolomic profiles in high‐grade glioma patients before and after 72‐h presurgery water‐only fasting

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Presurgery 72‐h fasting in GB patients leads to adaptations of plasma lipids and polar metabolites. Fasting reduces lysophosphatidylcholines and increases free fatty acids, shifts triglycerides toward long‐chain TGs and increases branched‐chain amino acids, alpha aminobutyric acid, and uric acid.

Expressions of Sentiments During Code Reviews: Male vs. Female [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the 26th IEEE International Conference on Software Analysis, Evolution and Reengineering, 2018, 2018
Background: As most of the software development organizations are male-dominated, female developers encountering various negative workplace experiences reported feeling like they "do not belong". Exposures to discriminatory expletives or negative critiques from their male colleagues may further exacerbate those feelings.

Scattering and Polarization of Light by Silicic Acid Gel-Forming Mixtures [PDF]

open access: yes, 1943
Much work has been done on the factors affecting the time of setting of silicic acid gels. The effects of hydrogen ion concentration, heat, and the presence of ammonium chloride and other soluble impurities are quite well known.

Targeting the MDM2‐MDM4 interaction interface reveals an otherwise therapeutically active wild‐type p53 in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study investigates an alternative approach to reactivating the oncosuppressor p53 in cancer. A short peptide targeting the association of the two p53 inhibitors, MDM2 and MDM4, induces an otherwise therapeutically active p53 with unique features that promote cell death and potentially reduce toxicity towards proliferating nontumor cells.
