Preliminary investigation of the effect of ethyl 4'fluorooxanilate as a male gametocide of sweet stem sorghum

open access: yesActa Agriculturae Scandinavica. Section B, Soil and Plant Science, 2019
An effective male sterility system enables targeted crosses between parent plants with desired and complementary characteristics. The use of chemical hybridising agents (CHAs) to induce male sterility is quicker and more efficient than manual ...

Identification of no pollen 1 provides a candidate gene for heterosis utilization in foxtail millet (Setaria italica L.)

open access: yesCrop Journal, 2021
Male sterility is a common biological phenomenon in plant kingdom and has been used to generate male-sterile lines, which are important genetic resources for commercial hybrid seed production. Although increasing numbers of male-sterility genes have been

Gene, protein and network of male sterility in rice

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2013
Rice is one of the most important model crop plants whose heterosis has been well exploited in commercial hybrid seed production via a variety of types of male sterile lines. Hybrid rice cultivation area is steadily expanding around the world, especially

Cytoplasmic genetic diversity of potato varieties bred in Russia and FSU countries

open access: yesВавиловский журнал генетики и селекции, 2019
Male sterility in potato is little studied since traditional breeding is based  on the vegetative reproduction of highly heterozygous tetraploid varieties.

Characterization, inheritance of male sterility and development of male sterile and maintainer lines in ridge gourd (Luffa acutangula (Roxb.) L.)

open access: yesJournal of Horticultural Sciences, 2022
Two male sterile mutants IIHRRG-12MS (long fruited) and IIHRRG-28MS (medium long fruited) were identified from the ridge gourd germplasm IIHR-12 and IIHR-28 respectively at ICAR-IIHR, Bengaluru.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Tapetum-specific expression of harpinPss causes male sterility in transgenic tobacco

open access: yesBiologia Plantarum, 2012
Harpin, an elicitor molecule of bacterial origin induces hypersensitive response (HR) in non-host plants. In an attempt to induce male sterility, harpin was tagged with a signal peptide and expressed downstream to tapetum-specific TA29 promoter resulting

A novel strategy for creating a new system of third‐generation hybrid rice technology using a cytoplasmic sterility gene and a genic male‐sterile gene

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, 2020
Summary Heterosis utilization is the most effective way to improve rice yields. The cytoplasmic male‐sterility (CMS) and photoperiod/thermosensitive genic male‐sterility (PTGMS) systems have been widely used in rice production.

Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.

PARP inhibition and pharmacological ascorbate demonstrate synergy in castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, Volume 20, Issue 6, Page 1626-1642, June 2026.
Pharmacologic ascorbate (vitamin C) increases ROS, disrupts cellular metabolism, and induces DNA damage in CRPC cells. These effects sensitize tumors to PARP inhibition, producing synergistic growth suppression with olaparib in vitro and significantly delayed tumor progression in vivo. Pyruvate rescue confirms ROS‐dependent activity.
