Aryl isothiocyanates react with dialkyl 2-{[bis(dimethylamino)methylene]amino}maleates, generated from 1,1,3,3-tetramethylguanidine and acetylenic esters, to afford 2-(dimethylamino)-1,3-thiazole derivatives, functionalized 2-(dimethylamino)-6-thioxo-1,6-

Excursion to the World of Heptacyclic Compounds Made of Azulenes and Acetylenedicarboxylates [PDF]
Azulenes and acetylenedicarboxylates react under acid catalysis (Brønsted or Lewis) and form (2aRS,8aSR)-2a,8a-dihydrocyclopenta[cd]azulene-1,2-dicarboxylates as intermediate products, which then dimerize by central bond-formation between C(2a1) and C(2 ...

The malate–aspartate shuttle supports thermogenic lipid mobilization in brown adipocytes
Brown fat cells burn lipids within their mitochondria to generate heat. This process involves two energy “shuttles,” one of which is naturally blocked during heat production. We found that the second shuttle (MASh) is not required to generate heat. However, when MASh is disabled, the fatty acids meant for fuel are instead converted back into stored fat.

Arsenite methyltransferase 3 is required for mitochondrial function and hepatic lipid metabolism
AS3MT is a protein that helps the body process arsenic, a naturally occurring toxin found in water and soil. We discovered it also helps cells make and use energy properly. Without AS3MT, cells' mitochondria do not work well, leading to fatty liver and reduced activity. Increasing AS3MT in liver cells restores energy and protects against arsenic damage,

A variety of chiral bisphosphoric acids derived from binaphthols have been evaluated for enantioselective 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reactions, revealing that the feature of the linker in the catalysts exerted great impact on the stereoselectivity.

ABSTRACT Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) emitted by certain fungi have previously been suggested to modulate plant development and their response to stresses. While some fungal species, such as Trichoderma harzianum, are known to produce VOCs, the production of VOCs in other phylogenetically divergent species, such as Mucor mucedo, was previously ...

Abstract Objectives To describe the traction suture fixation technique for severely displaced lenses (≥180°) using a capsular tension ring (CTR) fragment during cataract surgery in dogs, and to retrospectively investigate its clinical outcomes. Animals Studied Eight dogs (nine eyes). Procedures The medical records of dogs with severe lens displacement (

Abstract figure legend Placental mitochondrial adaptation to gestational hypoxia. Hypoxic pregnancy in sheep increases placental insulin like growth factor 2 (IGF2) signalling (1), which is associated with a shift in capacity away from β‐oxidation (2) and complex I‐mediated respiration (3), while maintaining total oxidative phosphorylation capacity (4).
