Reactions of 2,5-dichloroacetophenone and 2,5-dibromoacetophenone with a series of thiophenols gave the 2-(arylthio)-5-halogenoacetophenones VII and VIII which were reduced with sodium borohydride in ethanol to the secondary alcohols IX and X.
